Anyone find that the speakers on this thing are... extremely lacking? Even with headphones, it lacks the power to make it loud...

I ran a test to compare it to my 4yr old dell, and the max internal speaker output compares to my Dell set @ 33~39% volume... and with a set of bose headphones, the max volume is about the same as my dell set to 24%...

The Bose headphones set @ max volume with the dell are comparable to the laptops internals speakers!!!!!

I'm most likely gonna return the laptop unless there's a fix... I mostly use my laptop for music and videos, and with such lackluster specs... it's about as useful as a paperweight...

Edit: I think my speakers are bad... I hear some distortion, scratching noise to be exact, tipical of blown speakers, when listening to my MP3's :(

Out of curiousity, did you register and enable your THX software as well? It'll make a pretty big difference in the sound.

This does. Also, make sure to set the headphone jack to the external speaker option instead of headphones, it'll improve sound quality drastically.

Mine's not that bad. The speaker have almost no lower frequencies, they suck when listening to music (they don't have noise, just the lack of bass), but, on the other hand, they are very sharp when listening to dialogs, like when watching sitcoms... (I have configured THX)

I also haven't noticed any problem when using external speakers or headphones (and I use them all the time, sometimes even switching those with my old Dell Inspiron 1525 or my Dell Axim PDA).

But I agree that they weren't supposed to be that weak on such a powerful notebook. It would be a lot better if they were more competent.
