I'm looking to buy a new gaming laptop after my old one died, and I've been doing what searching I can to find the best new one. Right now, I'm planning on getting the Sager NP5320 from powernotebooks.com with the following configuration:
15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200) display
ATi Radeon X700 256MB
2.0 or 2.13GHz Intel Sonoma processor
2GB RAM
60GB 7200rpm HD
Total is $1919
my only concern is the heft of the notbook, and whether I should hold out a little bit for a better combination of components. My last laptop was 6.5 pounds, a full pound less than this one, and it was no joy to carry. Also, I haven't been able to find a laptop that combines the AMD Turion processor with a more advanced, and upgradeable, graphics chipset. Would it be worth waiting for more laptops with X800 or 7800 GPUs to come out? Also, is there any other laptop that you would recommend?
Thanks!

I was just looking at the 5720, which, while significantly larger, is only one pound heavier...and comes with the 7800gtx.....oh the choices in life!
Advice? -
I was in a similar situation. I had an Asus Z70va, which was great, but I wanted to get more of a desktop replacement notebook. I considered the 5320 because of its DVI port, but decided to go for the 5720. I figured if I was going to upgrade, I should choose something that really stood above my Asus. This meant going for the 5720 with its GeForce 7800 card which strongly outclasses every other mobile card available.
My only concern about the 5720 is its size. I really feel comfortable with the weight/form factor of 15.4" notebooks. I hope the 5720 won't be too big for my preferences. If it doesn't work for me, I'll return it and probably look at the Dell M70 replacement (when Nvidia releases its next generation workstation graphics card). I hope it won't come to that because the 5720 looks like a fantastic machine. -

I've got a 5320...it is very bulky. 7.5lbs for the laptop alone. Not recommended for travel!
Read my review - link is in my signature - that may help you
I find that a bigger laptop that weighs the same or a bit more than a smaller laptop doesn't feel as heavy...one thing to keep in mind. The 5720 is definitely worth checking out!

I did read your review before posting originally, thanks for the great info! Much like Jack, I am quite comfortable with the 15.4" form factor. While having a huge screen and crazy graphics card would be wonderful, I don't want a laptop that is so large as to be not worth moving. I'm no small guy, but even for me 10 pounds of computer + power cord, along with a couple notebooks and a textbook or two gets pretty heavy. Anyone else been in a similar situation? Jack, I'd love to hear more once you get your computer; I'm planning on ordering it mid next weekish. -

Well, I only move my Sager back and forth to work, and it's very heavy...not something I'd carry for more than a minute.
Check out the Asus Z70VA - it is signifigantly lighter, mainly because it is made out of carbon fiber.
