So does anybody own this laptop, if so what do you think about it?
I wasn't able to find any reviews about it, but maybe someone else can.....
It looks really good, and it only weighs 4.8 lbs.
Also, I noticed in this picture ( http://www.powernotebooks.com/specs/images/5460/) the huge heatsink and various vents and the good tilt..
Anyways, if anybody has any info...i'd appreciate it...

info anyone?

I have ordered the NP6630, which is essentially the 15.4" version of the NP5460. I'll post a review once it arrives.

We are currently in the final stages of a review on this model, we will have it posted here in the coming week. If your still looking at that time you will have to check back for the review -
I like the silver.. nice looking notebook.
-
I'd like to read more about the Sager NP5460 as well.
-
Anyone have a review yet? I would like to make a decision soon, but would like to see a review if possible. Thanks!
-
I would really like some more info on this machine. I've searched for another review but alas, I can't find one. Does anyone have elso own one, or know where we can get a review? Thanks
-
My review of the NP6630, the 15.4" version of the NP5460 is up now. I hope it helps. I seriously considered the 5460, but decided to go with the bigger screen.
-
I am also urgently needing a review for a purchase very soon.
Most manufactureres notebooks are full of bloatware, do not come with driver disks or OS disks for recoveries and questionable tech support.
Thus a Sager 14" will probably be the way to go.
Justin at Xotic PC, any idea when your review will be done and posted??? -
Justin, are you still working on a review for the 5460 or 6630? I Liked what WashWest had to say but was curious what others have to say also.
-
I talked to Justin yesterday, 14 August and he said the review will be posted this week.
I am waiting to see what it says before ordering, as nobody has written a review or seems to own a 5460. My post on notebookforums.com 2 weeks ago went totally unanswered. -
You probably already saw it but there is a review of the 15.4" version up. Other than below average battery life it sounded like a great machine for those not interested in dedicated graphics. I assume the 14" may get slightly better battery life since it probably uses the same battery and has a smaller screen.

Yes Aphex I did see that thank you.
I hope Justin is true to his word and it will post in the next few days. -
sniff ... sniff .... I smell vaporware.
(sorry, bro ... had to be said. Everyone else was THINKING the same.) -
its too bad that there is very little information/opinion about this model. i'm very interested in it, but continue to be hesitant due to so little info. the NP6630 review is helpful, but not the same as having a decent review of this notebook or even comments from current owners... should we 'potential' owners be looking elsewhere?
-
bump ... need info
-
despite the lack of info on this machine, i just placed an order for one. i hope to have it next week and will post my thoughts after i've had a chance to use it a bit. hopefully there will be other reviews and opinions coming along soon.
-
Glad to hear that, Moviegoer. It will be great to finally see a review of the 5460.
-
My NP5460 arrived yesterday... i've not had a chance to do much with it yet and may not for a few days, but i'll try to post some initial thoughts when i get a chance. if anyone has specific questions i can try respond as best as possible along the way.
-
Hope you like your new laptop. And good to know that someone here now has it, am sure a lot of people are just waiting to fire questions at you. Looking forward to a lengthy first impressions post.
-
not long, but here is my short first impressions. the 5460 has pros and cons. i was able to spec out a powerful/loaded machine with T2500, 100GB 7200 HD, and 2G RAM for a good price. the notebook has a clean style, is fairly light, and has a pretty good build quality. the screen is also bright and crisp.
there are also a few downsides as well. first, the keyboard while good in places definitely has some flex in the right side, particularly in the arrow keys, right shift key, enter, and the surrounding keys. the wrist areas get reasonably warm, and while not extreme, it is noticeable to me. the fan also kicks on within a few mintues of use and then runs the entire time the machine is on. finally, as was mentioned in the np6630 review, battery life is pretty average (2-2.5 hours or so).
those are my pros and cons... ultimately for my uses (mostly academic work/typing) the cons outweigh the pros and i'm going to go with a different notebook. however, i think the laptop has lots of great things about it and may very well be a good choice for other users. -
Thanks for the report. That's very disappointed about the battery life. I'd hoped that the 14" screen would mean longer life than my NP6630 gets.
-
Dang! Good review, but disconcerting for me as I so nearly bought the 5460. What are you considering now? The HGL30 has more video card than you need, but looks like a good option.
Good luck and let us know. -
yes the battery life is not as good as i would hope... however my use was not with the settings optimized for battery life, so i would imagine that its possible to get 2.5-3 hours.. still not anything to write home about though.
i also considered the HGL30 but i don't need the video card and it has some other downsides for me. i'm looking seriously at the HP NC6400 as i think a business notebook is more in-line with my needs. -
Wash, sorry to keep bugging you about your 6630 but could you comment on the heat around the palm rest areas? I'm still a little concerned with battery life but any real heat issues are much more important. On the battery though can anyone tell me what the mAHr rating is for the smart 6cell in the 5460, or 6630 is?

sorry to hear that, looked like a "quality" lower cost alternative.
wonder if any of the vendors could chime in with their thoughts?
cheers, don -
Does the mAHr rating appear anywhere on the battery? I will check tonight. Even better - i'm sure the folks at powernotebooks could tell you. Give them a call. -
The battery label says 4000 mah.
-
just to chime in on the palm rest heat... i think this can be a pretty subjective area. for me the 5460's palm rests were noticeably warm (particularly in comparison to my current compaq notebook). however, the underside of the notebook was cooler than my compaq. so it seems to be a trade off based on HD location and other factors. for my uses the heat in the palm rests is more problematic that the underside, but others may feel differently.
-
Wash, thanks for looking up the battery rating. I guess this is a little lower than the standard 4800mAHr for a 6-cell so maybe that explains some of the lower battery life. I'm going to try calling Powernotebook again today, they were busy on Friday, I almost picked up a Sony Vaio FE over the weekend but I think once again I'm going back to the Sager.
