Promotional package and pricing details will be provided to Sager Dealers / Resellers early Monday April, 16th 2007.

So, those who have said that this would happen are dead right...and this embarrassed reporter who has said that it almost never happens is wrong again  Please accept my humble apologies...and enjoy this fantastic new pricing because it won't last long.

Hm, April 17 is also supposed to be the official release date for G84 and G86 from Nvidia. Total speculation, but maybe Sager is also going to officially announce their version of the M570RU at this time? This would be a good way to clear out remaining inventory if they're planning to discontinue the 5760... either way, great deal and thanks for letting us know!

The Clevo M570U (Sager 5760) will not get phased out for a while [at least 1-2 years], its their best seller.

The M570RU may new, but does not have some features that the M570U has.

    Donald,

Can you say yet if Power Notebooks will continue to offer the usual cash rebate in conjunction with this deal? Or is that one of the details that will get hammered out next week?

We will still offer the cash discount :)

Since it is only about not having to pay the credit card company fees there is no reason to not offer the cash discount.

The special promotion is being offered by Sager to all resellers/dealers and the end date has not been specified by them yet. Sager will be sending out a memo on Monday to all resellers on the details of this sale. The pricing will go live Monday. :) :)

5760 supports 2GB or 4GB maximum? i read on notebookreview that supports 4GB, but on the purchase site it says 2gb.

    2GB.

Not only will the Intel 945 chipset not support 4GB, unless you are using Vista 64-bit it wouldn't really do you any good even if it could.

The high price for a 2gig stick of DDR2 SO-DIMM is a reason why you dont see that option on most Clevo resellers' sites (I only know a few resellers that even put that option on their site, like Eurocom & WidowPC). You would have to special order it usually if you really want it.

I have personally installed 2 gigs sticks of DDR2 in a Clevo M570U, so YES, it can max out at 4gigs.

I built a custom M570U for a friend, he spent about $1000 (OUCH!) for two sticks of Kingston 2gigs DDR2 SODIMM. Using Windows XP (32-bit), it did not see more that 2.8gigs.... which is already known.

So I got Vista Ultimate (64-bit) for him, and it sees the 4gigs fine.

It is not worth it, I would just recommend to get the 2gigs Dual Channel, its much more cost effective and has a much better performance/cost ratio.

Gophn thanks! no problem i can get 2x2gb sticks for $600, i just wanted to know if it supports..

    to donald:
is there maybe 7600g for overclocking in stock for sager? and chargers with european plug? because i am from slovenia(europe). Btw on usa plug charger, does that USA to EU adapter plug that u can buy for $5 works or it could damage laptop?
i think i will just use those $300 gift for 3y warranty.

Someone did purchase the T7600G for their M570U, I think you could probably find the thread somewhere in this forum.

The overclock cannot be done within the BIOS (no options available), it has to be done within Windows (using CrystalCPUID or ClockGen).

Howver, I would not recommend to overclock since its not really needed, because the CPU is not going to be a bottleneck for gaming or other uses. The GPU is usually the main bottleneck, but the 7950GTX helps with that. ;)

    thanks a lot Gophn.

btw about $300 off.. I think Sager is trying to sell the last models before DX10 comes out? Do you think they will release 5760 with dx10 next month?
just currious i don't care about dx10 in laptop since i can easly upgrade on pc, but i am curious because they say with centrino pro the battery life will be bigger.

And last thing i saw, it says 8cell battery.. why there is not option for 9cell?
sry for too much asking, need to make sure everything before make pourchase.
and you are in lot of help.

Hey...is it me or is there also an option for a 160GB 7200 RPM HD on Xotic PC? This is new right, as I thought only Dell had published this option?

Either way - a discount and a bigger drive ....tempting....

Yup, There is an option for a 160gb now. Seems like its no more a Dell exclusive. :)

Btw, can anybody give me a last date for this offer as the site says its a limited time offer only and doesnt seem to specify an end date.

    Thanks in advance.

Well looks like I'll be ordering my 5760 tomorrow. I am still worried about the matte screen though. I really hope its good quality. I'd hate to send it back just because of that. Does anyone know if you can change the screens out if I pay the difference?

If you are not satisfied with the matte screen you have 30 days from your SHIP date to send it back in for a refund, and then use that refund to buy one with the glossy screen.

The refund will not include shipping/handling and insurance costs, so you would be out that plus what ever it costs to send it back.

You better do some research on the "real" support you will get from 4gb of ram... There is alot more to it then just having a BIOS come up and say that you have it...

I suggest you start with this: article... http://www.vistaclues.com/reader-question-maximum-memory-in-32-bit-windows-vista

Ignore the article title, it goes into easy to understand technology behind the scenes that impacts all windows based operating systems, both x86 and x86-64...

In thinking about where to best put the $300 savings (other than in the bank) can any of you with experience share if there is a noticeable difference in going from a 2.0 to a 2.16 or even a 2.33 on the CPU?

If so..how would it "manifest" itself during normal use? (browsing, gaming, multiple application use, etc.)

    Thanks!

There is minimal gains by upgrading from the 2.0 to a 2.16 or 2.33. The 2.0 is it at a optimal performance / price point.

We ran a test on a system with a 2.0 and then a 2.33 with the Windows Vista Experience Index. With the 2.0 Windows scored the system as a 4.5 and with the 2.33 the system scored a 4.7.

I received a base score of 4.5, because of my 2gb DDR2 677 ram. Yet my CPU score was a 4.9. What was the CPU score for the 2.16 and 2.33. Just wondering.

UPDATE: I would like to stand corrected, since I confirmed with over 6 sources that have installed 4 gigs of RAM (2 x 2gigs) into this system. The system (in a low level standpoint) will only see up to 3 gigs, due to the Intel 945 chipset's limitations w/ the allocation of memory and PCI-E [even though the Intel site shows it supporting up to 4 gigs].

My friend's notebook [which I built with 4 gigs] has been confirmed to show 3 gigs detected in the BIOS. He is currently using a 4 gig USB pen drive to use ReadyBoost with his Vista Ultimate (64-bit), so he seems not to notice any performance issues at all.

In any case, the Clevo M570U can install 4 gigs of RAM (2x2gb), but it would definitely a waste since it would only see up to 3 gigs.

Donald (from Powernotebooks) is great person and vendor, he wanted to make sure I clarified that to save consumers money and confusion.

    Thanks Donald. :)
