Hi!
I've got a Pioneer system here
and I want to connect my Sager NP5790 to it by spdif.
I had a TOSlink to TOSlink cable and a Toslink Female to Toslink Mini Male Adapter here but it doesn't work.
I had enabled Realtek HD audio (s/pdif) and saw the sound signal in Windows volume control but there is no sound in the system.
So my question is:
1. What audio driver you are using in your Sager NP590?
2. Do we need to see the light signal at the tip of TOSlink cable when we connect?
3. I saw the Realtek HD audio poped up when I plug in any other audio rack except s/pdif out. Is it normal?
Thank you.
@Gopn: I read all your posts about s/pdif but still confuse.

Lemme see if I can help you.
I went over it most recently here:

1) the SPDIF out should be using a 3.5mm jack to RCA setup. (not TOSlink/optical)
you can use a 3.5mm to RCA mono.
a setup like this:

$16
OR
you can get a cheap 3.5mm to RCA female cable, and just use a basic RCA cable from that to the receiver
$2.50
2) then you go into the Realtek software to set the SPDIF port.
That should be it really. -
Thanks for replying.
About "cheap 3.5mm to RCA female cable" option, then how can I connect it to my home stereo system? TOSlink cable? -
your Pioneer HTS-GS1 should have 3 digital inputs (1 coaxial and 2 optical).
With your notebook, its best and easiest to use SPDIF with coax.
this is what a standard coax for SPDIF looks like:
... its just a single RCA cable, so you do not have to buy a nice one like this... just use an extra RCA cable that you have and connect to the the 3.5mm to RCA plug. -
Thanks Gophn. I will try it.
