I've been having problems with my notebook's headphone jack for a couple of weeks now, and today I think it has broken for good. The problem I have is getting the computer to recognize my headphones are plugged in. Plugging them in always mutes the notebook's built-in speakers, but no sound comes to the headphones. For the past couple of weeks I was able to fix that by fooling with the connector - after a minute or so I could get it to work fine for as long as the computer stayed on. Today I can't get it to work at all.

I'm still under parts and labor warranty. Should I just send it in? Or is there any kind of fix I can try on my own?

edit: After more random fiddling I got it to work again. The only weird thing I notice is that muting does nothing. The volume control still works as normal, but muting will not stop the audio. Realtek HD Audio Manager appears to think I'm using speakers instead of headphones.

your best bet is to send the notebook back to Sager!! :)

They'll replace the motherboard and so the jacks will get replaced in the process! lol! ;) :D weird, i know!

    But thats how it works!

anyways, i had the same problem! check this thread out - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3384992#post3384992

Hope this helps! though i'd still recommend sending it back to Sager for RMA! :)

Get an external USB Creative sound card, or the express slot card from Creative.
Have both and they`re brilliant, much better sound and much better volume.

Thanks sohail your topic was helpful to me :)

Thanks for your suggestion, I was thinking about that. I mean even though I'm frustrated with Sager for their cheap headphone jacks and want them to pay to fix it, I'd have to back up my hard drive, send my notebook in, and wait weeks for it to be returned to me :/ It seems like a lot of trouble for one headphone jack. Plus I saw from the other topic sohail really liked the express card slot. I just bought a good new pair of headphones and it would be nice to utilize their quality with a better sound card.

Eleron could you tell me which external USB sound card you have? I noticed the express card slot is $80, but the USB externals I looked at were only $50. Do you notice a difference in quality? Thanks for your help.

Both cards are from Creative. The USB was 45$ and the express card one costs aroun 60-70$, the latter being better.

Some while ago, when I started having problems with the green jack, I bought one X-Fi Express Card... I had to return it...

The sound was rubbish, even with multiple configurations on CMSS 3D and Crystalizer. Even with the most recent drivers, the sound was full of cracks and weird noises(in both XP and Vista). The drivers are updated like once a year and their software is quite instable/bogus.

Any 3D sound, such Direct3D or EAX, is completely processed by the CPU, wich can lead to slowdowns in games that use those 3D sound processing APIs.

The sound produced by the Realtek ALC 883 chipset on the M570RU's board, is better and cleaner, with a wider sound spectrum and more natural bass.

High quality external sound processing, is unfortunately only available on professional solutions, such E-MU and M-Audio.

    ;)
