I've had my NP5793 for about 2 years now and two days ago when I was playing a game the screen went black. This has happened before due to heat problems so I cleaned the fans and made sure it wasn't heat problem (even monitored the temperature with nTune)
But the problem now is whenever I have ANY nvidia driver installed I would get the black screen within 10-20 seconds after I log in to Windows. I have to go into safe mode to uninstall the nvidia driver and use the VGA driver (which is what my comp is running on right now) to avoid going into black screen. I highly suspect that it's a hardware problem since any nvidia driver would crash it (even the one I got from xoticpc on a disc). But the thing is...when I run dxdiag it still shows the chip type to be nvidia...so the gpu is obviously not completely ruined...
Any ideas or suggestions? I even reinstalled Windows and the same problem persists.

Your gpu is dying either upgrade/replace it or try baking/heatgun.

Yup! I think your GPU is the culprit!

There's a good article of why the Nvidia 8800/9800 cards have been failing for the past 2+ years, here....

ok so I think I'll have to replace it although I'll probably try baking it before I do since it's the last resort anyways...but now I just have some general questions that i hope some of you can answer
1. Where do you guys recommend I order new GPUs for laptops? (I live in Canada)
2. What chips are actually compatible with the Sager NP5793?
3. Would anyone recommend that I might as well go with a lower performance GPU this time around since it would take ways less power so generate way less heat...and will last longer and perhaps increase the stability of the machine if I choose to sell it?
Thanks guys any help is much appreciated.
