*Note: Edited posts as all the suggestions were misleading for this problem.

Was a simple software conflict causing the freezes in the end. Silly beta files.

easiest sollution is not to minimize while a game is loaded.
as long as it doesnt happen at any other time then you know your computer just cant handle doing 2 things at once :)

try Who Crashed to give a report after the crash. itts mainly used for bsod but it might shed some light.

should have re worded it better.
weve all got powerfull laptops but when it comes to gaming of course they can handle anything we throw at them but even on the worlds fastest laptop it can strugle or should i call it a glitch when minimizing a game and also doing menial things in the background while the game is still open.

A suggestion: the card could be down-clocking in the 2D setting making it unstable while running a game. The card could also be down-clocking on 2D loading screens.

Is windows creating any Minidumps after the crashes? You could stress test the ram to confirm that's not the problem.

memtest86 (or 86+) is a dos based program and has nothing to do with which version of windows you are running. Download a bootable cd image from their site, burn it to disc, and boot from it.

No problem. Troubleshooting is almost never fun. I'm not on Vista right now (XP at work, 7 at home), but I recall that it was found in a fairly obvious place. Try searching for "minidump" from the start menu. You will probably have to download a windows debugging tool (should be easily found via a google search). A while back, I was having random BSODs, checked out the minidumps, and found out that ATI Tool was creating problems.

You could use ntune or gpu-z to monitor clocks and voltages on your video card. At this point though, it sounds like it could be anything from a software issue to a power supply problem. Good luck!

Have you checked your temps? Use HWMonitor to keep track of them.

Otherwise, it is very easy to remove the CPU or GPU heatsinks, check out the service manual in my sig.

Maybe it's just because I've had so many of them myself recently, but the first thing that pops into mind is a hard drive issue. (edit: yeah, it's just because I've had 4 hard drives go bad on me in the last 4 months...)

Here's why I think this: you're having to turn the machine off without shutting down Windows, hard drives go bad over time, and it's getting progressively worse (or is it?).

Mind you, I am not a computer expert, nor even really savvy, by any stretch. But there would be no harm in downloading HDTune and running a couple diagnostic tests, in any case.

Am I completely nuts? Or just making a dumb suggestion? :D
