I was ready to get the Sager NP5793 for around $1450 from xoticpc.com, but I noticed it didn't have HDMI which I really want. The NP5796 has HDMI (and lots of other higher spec components) but the cost is much more than I want to pay (<$1500 is my target). Any suggestion on an alternative to the NP5793 that has HDMI? Regarding specs they are quite minimal, I like 17" screens (15.4 would work too), 1080p resolution, and as good a gaming performance I can get for under $1500 (i.e. good GPU). That's about it, everything else is flexible.

I really liked the Gateway P-7811FX but they are no longer for sale at BesyBuy (I don't want to buy used on eBay) and the Gateway replacement is over $1600, so that is outside my range. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The HDMI shouldn't stop you from buying this beast. Seriously, just get an adapter and a 3.5mm cable. FOr your budget, there's the Sager NP2096 or Force 3551 in the 15'' that fits your budget but they are less powerfull.

How would I get video to my two HD TVs that have HDMI and the other DVI inputs? I know you can get viedo and audio from an HDMI port on a laptop to a TV with DVI, but how would I do this with the Sager NP5793? If I can then this is the laptop for me! (unless the new Gateway goes down in price in the next 3-4 weeks)

you should be able to get a 3.5mm jack to 2xRCA lead that plugs into the line out/headphone socket on the laptop and goes into an aux in on the tv. For surround sound, you can use the spdif output to an spdif enabled tv/amp/speaker set

You could get one of the new M17's from Alienware for around $1500 or you could try to see if one of the other OCZ whitebooks vendors has one in your pricerange. They have HDMI out.

I see there is S-video out, but is there a way to get an HD signal to my HDTV from the NP5793? It has a Blu-Ray player and it would be nice to get HD quality outputted to a TV.

yes.... you can just get an inexpensive DVI-HDMI adapter (under $5).

I have one, used it a number of time fine. :)

Sorry, it does not stream the audio, but you can just get a cheap audio cable.

    3.5mm to RCA male (under $5) ... get a 6-foot:

hm.. so I see that there's actually a really simple solution...

How does the quality compare though? Would it still be an HD video quality coming out of a DVI? Also, the sound quality with the HDMI, is it better? But I guess it's more about the video quality... so is it the same?

DVI is the same as HDMI for video quality.

HDMI just includes a audio stream as well, while DVI does not.

Thats why using a DVI-HDMI adapter wont affect any video quality.
