Hey, I got my NP5793 today and it's friggin amazing. I haven't really done any kind of benchmarks yet, but it's incredibly fast and has no dead pixels as far as I can tell. The only game I've played is Audiosurf :D ...needless to say, it runs perfectly with everything maxed.

So far there's only two things I could use some help with...

    1. I ordered 4GB of memory. In the system info it says that there is 4GB of memory installed but only 2.44 available. Is that normal? Is the rest of it being used by Vista?

    2. This is pretty insignificant but I can't get WEI (Windows Experience Index) to work right. After it scans my system it doesn't show any updated results and still says "your windows experience index has not been established yet". Like I said, pretty insignificant, but if anybody knows how to get it working that'd be great.

@SplinteredVision, yes it is normal. The rest of the memory are being used by the OS and programs, that's why they are not available.
@nomoredell, it doesn't require the knowledge of how to run wei in order to tell 5793 is better than 7811. vista on 5793 is same as the vista on 7811.

Hmmm...I don't really know how to respond to this...you pretty much just made an idiot out of yourself. Like my post says (try reading it next time) I did scan my system, but there is a deeper problem that causes my results to show up. On the subject of the P-7811, the fact that Gateway already discontinued it is a pretty big indication of what a disaster it was, but I gotta admit I'm really kicking myself because of the NP5793's lack of horrible support, instability, and a cheap plastic chassis

This is bizarre, and worthy of comment. Mine is doing the same thing, and I'm running XP. I've never seen a PC do this before, laptop or desktop, and I've owned a lot of them. Mine shows 2.5 gigs of RAM.

Can anyone comment specifically on why System Properties might be showing less RAM than the machine actually has?

available means free, you don't see all of them because of 1) 32bit operation system 2) part of memories are being use by programs.

    This is out-and-out wrong.

I walk over to my desktop which has 2 gigs of RAM, right click on my computer, select properties: and amazingly, it lists the system as having 2 gigs of RAM! It is running XP. My wife's XP system correctly lists her RAM at 4 gigs. My ASUS G50V correctly lists the RAM in system properties as 4 gig; it is running Vista 64 Home.

I'm quite aware of the limitations of a 32 bit operating system. This has nothing to do with that - the limitations of a 32 bit operating system are 3.5 gigs recognized, not 2.5. It is some bizarre quirk of the SAGER laptop build or something is FUBARed.

Did a scan at Crucial: It says my maximum system memory is 1 gig (?), but acknowledges that I have 4 gigs installed.

Ran 3DMark06 - it says that my system has 2.5 gigs of RAM.

Something is bizarre here. Justin, can we get a comment?

I believe OP was referring 2.44 GB in task manager as he stated that his rig showed 4GB in system info.

No it was actually the system information located in Start>Accessories>System Tools.

Let me throw in another question...what's currently considered to be the best driver for the 9800m gts? I went to laptopvideo2go and found it to be a bit confusing.

I stand correct. Those 2.44GB memories in your system info are unused. try to run a game you will see them drop down to 1.44GB or so. here is mine.

edit: regarding the driver, different drivers with different games have different results, there isn't such thing as the "best drivers".

Looks like my problem may indeed be the 32 bit OS - it appears that the more memory on your vidcard, the less RAM the OS can detect.

    3DMark06 - 9245

...using the latest drivers, if anyone was curious. :)

Where the heck is the Nvidia folder located? I swear I've searched every file.

    @ Condottiere - Is that the 178.15?

The memory thing maybe is just like on the 8660? In mine in a 32b OS the system says I have 4 Gb and available 2.5, apparently now there is a bios update to see 3.5Gb as you should. Or install a 64b OS which is what did.
About the WEI thing, is probably because some drivers are misbehving, or you are missing something from the install (I think for example you cant run the WEI without the Media PLayer installed).

Oh well, I don't really need to know anymore...I was just trying to figure out how to update video drivers, but I found a good guide here.

Unfortunately the 178.15 drivers took my 3dmark06 score from 8992 down to 8821 :/

    guess I'll keep looking

Yeh, i agree. It's all about the performance. Gaming and demanding applications.
