So I'm going to buy a new laptop for College in a month+. I had settled on the M15x but then found Sager and now and probably going to get a NP5796. But I mean... In percentage terms how much "faster" is a NP5796 with an X9100, 9800M GTX (1gb), 4gb ram at 1066 than the M15x with X9000, 8800M GTX (512mb), and 4gb ram at 667. If it really is as much faster than I think it will be than I'll probably go with the NP5796 over the alienware. The Sager is cool looking but I just really like the alienware case (pretty much the only reason why I haven't been able to decide). I'll mostly be doing school work, with some WoW, Crysis etc.

don't get the m15x it has problems either get the m860tu if your going to move it around alot but if your going to keep it in one place get the np5796 and the np5796 is stronger then both of them and supposedly the 9800m gtx is 20-40% stronger than the 8800m GTX(supposedly)
-
m15x definitely, it's a flawless piece of art
jk
get the NP8660 if you want 15 inch or the NP5796 if you want 17 inch -
You should also look at the build quality and cooling aspect... which is very important for gaming notebooks.
The M15x has a so-so chassis from the numerous complaints and its cooling (or lack of) will cause overheating and the lifespan of the system wearing down with heat.
The Clevo M570TU (aka. Sager 5796) is slight larger, but has very good build quality and good cooling. Its new Moentivina platform will give it more upgradeability as well.
The 9800M GTX will have twice the video memory than the 8800M GTX, and the performance is speculated to be around 20-25% faster. -
Just for reference, the 9800m GT is a die shrunk 8800m GTX. Everything else equal, the 9800m GT will preform imperceptibly better than the 8800m GTX.
If you're worried about over heating, the NP5796's got a beast of a cooling system. -
think the NP5796 is too big and heavy to be carrying around? Going to be carrying the computer from my dorm to class to the library and back I assume. I used to have a 17" Powerbook but it overheated and died 2 years ago, and haven't had a laptop since. I went to look at Best Buy to get an idea on the size of 15.4" and 17" because I had forgotten and the 17"s did seem fairly large. I guess a 15.4" is more practical b/c I'm in not sure how much hardcore gaming I'll be doing (more like an hour everyday or two).

well if you think that a 17inch would be to big for you get the sager np8660/clevo m860tu
-
A few comments, the 5796 is a TAD bit smaller than your average gaming 17". Also since the m15x and the NP8660 are gaming they are bigger than your average 15.4" laptop. The dimensions difference between the 5796 and the m15x/8660 are not that big. 1.2lbs, 1.1" in length, .9 in depth.

im gettin np8660 before i was thinkin about m15x too but since this one came out forget that piece of ****, and im gettin 15 inch only
anyways m15x looks too kiddy for me, even at my age; 22 -
good points about the sizing ill compare the 3. Oh, any idea if either of the 3 will have more upgrades in the next month?
-
both of the sager's just came out so probably no for them. but for the alienware probably soon
-
You need to keep in mind that any upgrade to any alienware means you need to endure 2 months of backorder excuses before you will get your hands on it.
Sager NP5796, NP8660, or alienware M15x
