    Questions:
    • Will the CPU I've chosen pose heating problems?
    • How is the CPU I've chosen? Should I opt for the Q9000 instead. The QX9300 is way out of my reach.
    • Are there general heating problems prevalent with this model?
    • What sound card option is best?
    • What warranty option is best (considering price as well.)
    • Any issues concerning this notebook in general?

    Thanks folks.

    Hi disassembled59.

Finally! Someone other than me has bought the silver trim version. Very, very good choice, my brother.

The T9600 will not pose any heating problems. In fact, no CPU has ever posed a heating problem in this laptop.

Part of me is saying "go with the Q9000" but that's really up to you. Other than games, what will you be using your laptop for?

There are no heating problems with this machine. This chassis has been problem free of heat since it debuted back in 2005.

If you plan to hook up external setups to your laptop and want quality output from the DAC, then a go with the X-Fi. However, the integrated sound card do that job just fine too.

Most people choose the standard one year warranty. But it wouldn't hurt to opt for the two year.

The only issue that this notebook has, that I can think of, is moderate fan noise.

Hey I like the black/orange look. :p There is nothing wrong with getting the duel core. so far Have only found one game that makes me wish I had a quad and that is gta 4(rockstar's fault for a bad port).

Performance wise it is, but thats because the game engine was designed for the ps3 cell processor which is basically a 7 core proc. I think the game itself is good, just the direct porting of the game engine could of been done better.

That's correct. I agree with you.

This isn't directed at you, akaltenbach. I just need to rant off topic for a bit.

Porting such a complex game engine built on the beastly PS3 and XBOX 360 CPU to run smoothly on mobile dual cores is a very large feat to attain. I believe that the complaints from many notebook gamers that play this game is because their hardware can't swallow the CPU and GPU performance requirements.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4946384&postcount=11

GTAIV has a very wide range of quality and performance options and sliders to accomodate many machines of different performance levels. If users with decent notebooks can play at the console equivilant settings or above, then I see no reason for them to b*tch about it. They only complain because they can't play with the sliders juked up high above console equivilant. Many of the veteran users on the GTAforums agree that the game is not a bad port, rather it is the computers of those who play it that are bad. Not to induce "argumentum ad populum," but I trust many of the senior users and moderators over there as they know the ins and outs of the game engine, more than what many NBR users as well as myself know, and what hardware is necessary to play it.

gta4 was hard as heck to play when it fist came to the pc world...but now...after all the patches...it is playable not as bad as it's first days here. so that bad port stuff is not so much a reality anymore...

Sorry, not into current consoles anymore... does this mean that the 360/PS3 has more powerful CPUs than current notebooks? I'm quite surprised by this. Can anyone also tell me the notebook equavalent of the 360's/PS3's GPUs?

Sorry to steer this off topic somewhat.

we went over this a number of times, and other sites have as well.

the console's are using multi-core CPUs... not like the ones in PCs... they are more like using multi-logical cores that specifically are optimized & utilized by the SDK's (software development kits) for the systems.

as for GPUs, the PS3 is using a modified 128-bit mem interface version of the Nvidia G70 (7800/7900).
... and the Xbox 360 is using a modified 128-bit mem interface ATI R420 (X800)

yeah the consoles are heavily cpu dependent. there's a link i can't find but after a year, of both console and hdtv were becoming popular, companies started to see consoles crap out at higher resoultion. more 1080p then 720p.

that's why ported games, (if not done right) relies more on the cpu(gta4) then the gpu.
    480i was fine.

fallout3 was a good example. it was heavily tuned for the ps3 where it sits at 30fps most of the time instead of 60.
