Hey, I'm considering purchasing a Sager NP5797 as a gaming laptop, but I can't seem to find any reviews for it - Searching this forum for "Sager NP5797 review" didn't turn up anything useful.

Does anyone have any comments on this laptop (good one to get? no?), or have any links to reviews of it?

    Thanks,

Regarding reviews of the NP5797, you should look up reviews for the NP5793 and NP5796.

I have the NP5796 and I used the reviews from the NP5793 and I am very happy with this beast of a laptop.

I don't think you could go wrong with it.

look for reviews of Sager NP5796!! specwise both 5796 nd 97 are the same except for the quad support on NP5797!! :)

    *EDITED*

(PS. sorry for the confusion!! was just about to drop to sleep so was in kinda like a suspended animation state!! lol!)

Actually sohail, the NP5797 is the one that supports Quad-Core, whereast the NP5796 does not support Quad-Core. Both the NP5796 and NP5797 come with both orange and silver trim.

    What?

No I have the 5796 in silver....

The difference is that the 5797 has a revision that allows for mobile quad cores, where as the 5796 has mobile dual cores...Now and especially in 2009+ the quad core will be more beneficial...

I also hope they fixed the esata issue that alot of us using the 5796 have...Very annoying have to use USB..

    @OP nd waynet -

Currently the lappy can be equipped with QX9300!!

though the reviews about the lappy as a whole are not out yet(I couldn't find any!)

Here's are the basic benchmarks for QX9300 as compared to other desktop nd laptop processors! - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html
    QX9300 is no 3.

    hope this helps! :)

btw also found this ASUS notebook that can accommodate a QX9300 + can have upto 1TB storage!! only downside is 9700m GT! :( - http://www.toysgadget.com/asus-g71v-with-intel-mobile-quad-core-cpu-full-hd/gaming !! sure looks nice!

I have no data or proof to back this up...

But a number of us are no longer able to use our ESATA port with an ESATA cable for devices that use ESATA..It gets very finicky and locks up the system until you unplug the cable and then everything starts moving/working again..I myself have tried 3 cables, they do not last more then 1 day.. Now i do not have another Esata device to swap, but my symptoms are pretty much the same as anyone else i have seen complain..

That port doubles as a USB port also, its a combo port. I can plug my WD hard drive in with a USB cable there, just not ESATA..

I hope this all makes sense...i am wicked tired right now...
    (Gixxer out!) :p

I'm curious as well if there is a resolution. I've never heard good or bad about Sager's service.

Probably not very helpful for you guys with esata issues, but here is an exchange I had today with Xotic rep re esata compatibility:

Xotic: The Sager np5797 does support e-Sata drives. the external Sata drive will work with the notebook

Me: I've read a couple thread on the notebookreview Sager forum by folks with 5797s that are having trouble with external esata drives - notebook freezes when connected then resumes normal operation when disconnected...
Are you guys aware of this issue?

Xotic: I haven't heard of this issue before

Me: Interesting...heres a cut/paste of one statement froma 5797 owner:
But a number of us are no longer able to use our ESATA port with an ESATA cable for devices that use ESATA..It gets very finicky and locks up the system until you unplug the cable and then everything starts moving/working again..I myself have tried 3 cables, they do not last more then 1 day.. Now i do not have another Esata device to swap, but my symptoms are pretty much the same as anyone else i have seen complain..

Xotic: You would want to contact the manufacturer of your external hard drive if it's locking up your system.
The "1TB (1,000GB) ESATAII 7200RPM External Hard Drive" that Xotic PC offers with this notebook has been fully tested and is supported on the notebook. If your having issues with a third party device you would need to contact the manufacturer of that device.

Me: Understand...unless there is a broader compatibility issue with the Sager. Esata capability is critical to my choice of a new laptop. What brand/model is the 1TB drive you offer as an option?

Xotic: Unfortunately that information is not available. All of the details i have is that it's a "1TB (1,000GB) ESATAII 7200RPM External Hard Drive"

Me: Interesting...how would I find this out?

Xotic: You can order the 1TB (1,000GB) ESATAII 7200RPM External Hard Drive when customizing the notebook from our configuration menu online

Me: Fine...but I'd like to know what I'm getting (brand/model) before I spend the $300 for the option.

Xotic: Unfortunately that information is not available. All of the details i have is that it's a "1TB (1,000GB) ESATAII 7200RPM External Hard Drive" The specific brand/model is not available, however, this drive has been tested with the notebook and the notebook fully supports this external e-Sata hard drive.

    That`s rather vague.
I guess it`s better to get the drive separately, where it`s cheapest. You`ll know exactly what you`re getting this way.

Thats why I was hoping to find out which drive they're using. At least then you'd know its been tested/checked out.

You shouldn't have to buy a certain brand for it to work. eSATA is a standard that should work. A bad drive is one thing, but only being guaranteed to work on their $300 drive is BS.
