After reviewing the multiple threads regarding fan noise on Sager M579x (Clevo M570RU) series, Sager has made additional fan firmware adjustments with Clevo and has received the following adjusted firmware. “Version 1.00.07Sb”
How-to ID your firmware version:
Please turn on “Boot-time Diagnostic Screen:” in the system BIOS to disable the boot logo
Then review the line ”KBC/EC Firmware Revision:” during the system POST screen
Standard stock firmware from Clevo: 1.00.xx
Sager Edition: 1.00.07Sa (Sager revision a) is what Sager released last week.
Sager Edition: 1.00.07Sb (Sager revision b) released today 1/21/2008
Fn+1: Full Fan Speed
Fn+3: Mid Fan Speed (however fan will still automatically adjust speed up to full speed if temperature reaches our preset High throttle point, and back to Mid speed when cooled down.)
Fn+2: remains as system original default to enable / disables SRS audio.
Starting today all new sager NP579x series will be shipped with this new firmware version, and Sager customers can request the firmware update from their Sager reseller or directly with Sager Techsupport.
Please email your request to [email protected] with your system serial number.
For those who are annoyed at the fan cycling up to full speed every minute or so when doing light work, please use the new Fn+3 mid range control because then it will only cycle up when the temperature reaches the present high throttle point instead of every minute or so no matter what you are doing.

GREAT stuff! This is some commendable customer service..
-
great... im asking eurocom...
thx -
What I don't understand is why can't all people download this without all the extra fuss?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
-
Yes, but couldn't they invent some sort of system (like write your serial number, then a script offers you a unique download link)?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
I don't see the advantage to that. Just email them with your serial number and they will email it back to you. They will then be able to check the invoice number against the email address and serial number...
Of course if they were to build what you suggest it could turn out to be a mess if someone posted their serial number on a forum somewhere, or otherwise distributed it.
This way is much safer. -
See Donald?I told you it is possible to get a mid-speed fan! That clears out at least part of the issue!
I consider this an " I owe you one" since I know it was some of you guys who mentioned this to Sager.
Awesome work! -
Would it be possible to get Sager to update the firmware for the D901C? Not that it matters too much, the system is so quiet anyways, but it would still be nice to have even more control over the fans like the M570RU now has.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Well, it is not likely.
If it ain't broke...don't fix it -
Hahaha
that`s one of my dad`s favourite quotes...
In the D901C you would need firmwares for weight reduction
I`m going to try this new fan firmware as soon as Sager sends it to me and see if I can finaly take my laptop to the library and study halls... -
-
Fn+2: remains as system original default to enable / disables SRS audio
I Dont get that? Is that just leaving the current Default fan settings... whats SRS audio have to do with Fan settings? -
Guys,
Stay on Topic. I deleted some posts.
Thx

all i have to say is... thanks for the update. i just wish that they would trust users to download their own firmware and install it. i understand it's sager only update but i'm not sure why we are not allowed to do this on our own. maybe they are trying to save on bandwidth. are all the firmware updates going to be this way?

paladin please check your email in about two minutes.
-
Does this imply that anyone who didn't buy this system in the US (or when his reseller didn't go through Sager) is unable to obtain this firmware update? -
yes....
unless you ask one of the sager guys on the forum who emailed sager and got the firmware update in email to forward it to you.
but of coarse sager wont be held liable for your system then -
Sager won`t be held accountable even if you`re a sager user. Got the message in the email, saying that I take my chances with the 100% fan all the time
-
yes but installed a Sager firmware update on a non-sager machine.......
my 5793 will have the update straight from sager no self install for me -
Sager firmware? Clevo firmware... Sager is just the US reseller of Clevo.
-
Good news for those who were bugged by some fan speeds.
Excellent service by Sager on their part! -
Anybody who has tried it could post his thoughts after using it for a while? Specially those who have being posting about this issue. Also Paladin and Justing, it would be nice to get some feedback from them too.
It's the only thing that has being holding me into getting a 5793. -
Alright so if Fn+1 gives you full speed all the time and Fn+3 gives you medium speed all the time unless the throttle temperature is reached.
what gives you back to default settings? or is Fn+3 the new default?
Why would people rather thier fans run medium speed all the time, instead of low speed sometimes? -
But wait, I thought someone earlier said Fn+2 has nothing to do with the fan control speed, and that it just affects the SRS audio business... that they had to place the fan controls around Fn+2 (hence Fn+1 and Fn+3)
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Confusion...
Fn+3 (not Fn+2) will return the fans to the default setting. -
Ok i got it... but dang installing it sounds risky and sorta hard... Im not gonna do it.
-
-
, with light work and Fn+3 you say the laptop stays quiet, but does it go at full rpm after a few minutes (and how much aprox?)? or so far you havent seen it go that way?
-
Finally the thing stays pretty quiet for a gaming laptop!
I`ve gotta say though, the noise on full speed scares the pants off of me . That thing is LOUD and feels like it has a monstruos temper. But at mid speed+power saver stays at about 38-39 CSchweet.
Mid fan speed toggles at 39 C and cools the system down to about 38,and that means it will never reach 48 for ful fan speed.
Is it just me or does this firmware control speeds for both fans for Fn+1 ?(gpu and cpu)?
Also, is there really any long term exposure issue?meaning if I run the fans all the time, at full/med speed, won`t they eventually break down faster?
Also, too lazy to restart, will the settings stay this way?(if I toggle med speed, will they remain that way even after shutdown/restart? Can`t figure it just yet, since my ears are ringng from the full speed test to see what temps I would get -
Maybe this is a dumb question, but... Has anyone tried this on a non Sager brand Clevo laptop?? I have a 570RU that I bought barebones, and I'd like to do this firmware update... I've already emailed the company I bought it from, but haven't heard anything yet...
-
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
eleron911, the fan toggle controls both fans. There is no need to worry about wearing out the fans.
Unfortunately it will not remember settings after shut down.
-
why didn't this firmware update come from clevo itself?
-
is it possible to remap the firmware upgrade? i'd like to control it to medium fan speed but i'd like to keep my Fn+3 as mute.
-
What program do you guys use to monitor temperatueres?? Ntune isnt reading mine.

http://www.cpuid.com/download/HWMonitor.zip
It´s a very simple program that reads almost any temperature sensor that you have on you system...
And it´s free btw... -

Here you go...it is now Online
NP579x EC Firmware 1.00.07Sb now available on www.sagernotebook.com -> support -> driver download -> NP5792. -
Thanks to you and Justin that have past our complains to them. -
So i dont have to ask eurocom about that, i can just DL that and install it?
-
-
Has anyone taken an SPL meter and actually measure the noise of these fans? I'm a bit confused by all of the reports that I'm reading, some say it's no big deal provided you aren't working in a library others make it sound like it's pretty bad regardless.
-
With that firmware you have better control of your fans:
Low noise with sufficient cooling power --> Fn + 3
Normal noise with good coling power --> standard
High noise with very good colling power --> Fn + 1
-
How do you install this? Is it just a .exe double click and go??
-
Then restart your machine and press F2 to enter the BIOS menu. Select your CD/DVD-ROM drive as the first boot device.
Then press F10 to save and exit the BIOS. The CD will load, just folow the screen instructions.

It is a .iso file, so make sure you select burn disc image, not a data disc
-
Paladin I just sent Tim a video of my problem if you are still there you might want to view it as well. I'm hoping this can be fixed w/o an exchange. I'm loving this thing. (as long as its plugged in that is)
-
again its not a problem... its called Throttling (the performance is increased when needed... during the use on battery).
