My speakers don't seem very loud. With all the volume turned way up, it is not as loud as my crappy old dell 600m. Maybe it is because the speakers are on the sides? Anyways, is there anyway to make them louder without buying external speakers? or is it that quiet for a reason (i.e. magnets are heavy)?

This was posted by someone else a while back (sorry I forget who did it), but go to your RealTek HD Audio Manager, go to the 'Sound Effects' tab, and set 'Environment' to 'carpeted hawllway' and 'equalizer' to 'soft'. This makes it sound a lot better.

Also, make sure your SRS WOW audio is on. Fn+2 turns it on or off, and it's a very noticeable difference.

sterben, I did what you said and it seems to work a little better. I do notice that the fn+2 trick makes the sound different, but I thought I read that with the new quiet fan driver (that I have installed) fn+2 makes your fan speed normal. So do these two functions conflict???

The new fan drivers use fn+1 and fn+3 to control the fans. It's explained in this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=210714)

    Fn+1: Full Fan Speed

Fn+3: Mid Fan Speed (however fan will still automatically adjust speed up to full speed if temperature reaches our preset High throttle point, and back to Mid speed when cooled down.)

Fn+2: remains as system original default to enable / disables SRS audio.

Well, for me, with SRS on the sound is much more....surround-like, I guess; it sounds as if you have a right and left speaker on either side of the laptop pointed at you. With it off, it sounds horrible, like the speakers are inside the laptop.

My wife has a dell d630, and my np5790 with srs off sounds like her laptop by default. With SRS on, it sounds much more clear.

Fire up a game, toggle it on and on, and see which one sounds better. That's SRS ;)

I don't know if there is any sort of notifier or not for the Fn+ stuff. The hotkey manager that came with the computer would put a little graphic on the screen for the Fn+function keys (touchpad, volume, etc), but I don't have it installed currently so I don't know if it has one for SRS or not.

having the srs on is much better. like sterben said, with it off it sounds like the speakers are inside the laptop.
