I just bought this laptop a few weeks ago and have had it for almost 2 weeks now. I have been playing Diablo 3 the past 2 weeks and have had no issues till now. I was simply surfing the web and listening to spotify, when the laptop just shut itself down.

I ran cpu id monitor to check my temps. Idle is around 60C. When I am playing D3 it gets to 70C.

Are there any tests I can run to be sure I dont have a lemon on my hands? I am still within the 30 day return policy so if there is something wrong I will just return it.

hmmm deff something to be suspicious about. what happened when you turned it back on? obviously if you did not get a BSOD and you were not doing anything intense it probably was not overheating. there are a couple tools to check what happened. i think one is called whydidicrash, but I'm not sure.

you can find all the temperature monitoring software you need in my signature below.
the BSOD software is called who crashed but is only useful if you have had a bsod. that can be found below as well.

download hw monitor and tell us what temps you have after just surfing and then after 30 minutes of gaming.

also post your full spec of your lappy

hasn't turned off except that one time. Are there tests I can run on maybe the ram.. or the motherboard? I'm kind of a noob about all this.

For RAM, you can use Memtest86, it is one of the better programs out there for thoroughly testing your memory. You can find it here Memtest86 - Download Page

You can also try testing your hard drive using either SeaTools or Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. You will need to verify which hard brand of hard drive you have in your system before using either tool.

To check which hard drive brand you have, click your Start orb and type "Device Manager" in the search box and press Enter. Once there, click on the arrow next to "Disk Drives" and a little drop down should pop out.

If your drive begins with ST, it is a Seagate drive. If it begins with WD, it is a Western Digital. If it is anything else, let us here in the forums know and we can point you to the right tool.

I don't believe there is an explicit test for the mainboard on a laptop to my knowledge.
