I read in another thread that Clevo heatsinks are not flat and are actually warped and do not always have good contact. Does this hold true for the NP7338? Additionally, has anyone attempted any cooling mods on the laptop?

Lapping a heatsink will fix any heatsink, if you can do it well. I suggest buying a separate heatsink from Xotic or someone for your PC, then lapping it, then once it's lapped properly, use it on your laptop with a solid repaste. We'll see how it goes. Assuming of course, you have overheating issues on max fans. If you don't have any overheating issues, then you're fine.

It's not fun playing because the laptop is hitting 90C+ both CPU and GPU but it idles at sub 50C so I have a feeling that when the GPU comes on it just heats everything up.

Higher temps are pretty common regardless of the brand when you get powerful hardware in a small chassis.

    Have you tried repasting?

Are you using max fans? Fn + 1 will trigger it. A lot of games that plow through the CPU will easily hit 90 degrees on it if you don't use max fans, especially with how hot haswell is.

I haven't tried max fan I'll try that next I had no idea that Fn + 1 activated them. I have repasted I had the stock paste and I used arctic silver but I was looking around sounds like there are some way better options.

Yes. Gelid GC Extreme is a nice option; IC Diamond is quite cool but it can scratch heatsinks and dyes; you won't find a whole lot of better paste options than those two unless you're willing to go for Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra, which will quicker help with your CPU, but only if you're using a copper heatsink (as it corrodes aluminum). Arctic Silver 5 is still a nice paste though. But MX-2 should be avoided and AS5 is better than MX-4

This machine will always run a bit warm, if you are worried though you can double check the contact pattern.

My tubes of paste are kind of old. Do they expire? I tried playing BF4 on max fans and with ambient room temps around 78-80F I'm getting 90-92C temps. How would I check the contact pattern?

90 degrees C on BF4 on your CPU with max fans? Sounds 100% normal to me. BF4 = CPU toasting simulator.

Full load in BF4 that can be normal I agree. Paste life depends on the brand and the conditions it is kept in.

The right paste in a cool dry place will last a LONG time.

Alright. Thanks a lot guys. BF4 is now the official toast simulator.

It is, the thing is it loads the CPU on many threads AND the GPU a lot.
