I just recently got a Sager NP8130 with a nice core i7 and a gtx560m. I wasn't expecting the fans to be quite this loud when the laptop is even just on idle or just browsing the web. They are constantly on... it kinda drives me a little crazy cause I am in a very quiet room most of the time. Just wondering if this is normal for the fans to be running like this all the time?

Yeah the vents and fans seem to be clean. You mean idle temps? How can I find those?

download hwinfo32 or 64(64 if u have 64bit windows) and when u run the program select sensors only to see ur temps.

Nevermind just found a program to for it. My GPU stays right at 39-40C and my CPU cores are all at 43-45C.

If you've got a Sager BIOS contact your reseller for the EC version you should update to.

Yeah that is what I did just the other day. I emailed XoticPC about it and they told me that my stuff was up to date, but it does look like this Clevo Driver Thread shows there is a newer version.

I'm really curious because I'd be really happy if I could get the fans a little quieter.

Does toggling the Fn + 1 combo help at all? Or does it just switch between what it is now and full blast?

Email back to my service department, we'll contact Sager about it and see if they've got any options. I'm at a bit of a loss myself. How about lifting the back of the laptop a few inches?

I'll try giving it a bit of a lift and see if that helps, and the guy I emailed before said he'd check again to see if they might have just released something.

I have NP8130 from xoticpc and also experiencing a little bit of fan noise, using my laptop in class i can hear it, and feel like others can hear it too. If there is a solution I would appreciate it.

Not to jump on top, but I'm also having "louder and more active" fans since I upgraded to the latest bios and EC firmware.

The fan tables seem to have been "lowered" meaning the fans won't turn off or spin down unless the system is EXTREMELY cold (a.k.a. outside in winter) when before the CPU and GPU would cycle and turn off an on at 45C.

Did anyone every fix this issue? I just got the np8130 and it's a little annoying to be doing nothing and have the fans running. Just seems like they should be at 1000 to 2000rpm and silent until it hits 60s or higher. Most noise comes from gpu side.

You can try FN +1 (not F1) to toggle the fans, maybe they are set to full.

They aren't set to full, When I do the toggle it gets really loud, then hit it again and they almost shut off, them quickly ramp back up to ....an in between speed. The problem I have is that I'm not doing anything....I let the laptop sit with nothing open, even try putting it in win7 power saver mode, still the same thing. It's about as loud as my semi quiet desktop which is pretty unacceptable when I'm just browsing (or doing nothing).

I'm not sure if CPUID HWMonitor is reliable for this system, it shows about 38-42c on cpu cores, and cpu fan is a bit quieter than the GPU fan. THe GPU is Idling at 55c according to HWMon. The majority of the noise is coming from the right/gpu side. I have the 560m.

Edit: I just did another test, I pulled my second monitor off so the gpu would go down further, had it on battery, GPU was idling around 35c. The fans are still running, you can hear them from 3-4ft away. They aren't obnoxious like hair dryers, but I just wonder why they are even on...and it's annoying.

Hey Link....keep in mind I'm pretty anal, and just to give you an idea of the noise level. I'm in office right now and the A/C is pretty loud above my head, ambient noise drowns the laptop out, I can't hear it.

When I'm at my house at night (coding usually), it's quiet, just about dead silent, so it's pretty noticeable to me. I'm also coming from a macbook pro where, when just web browsing, the fans run around 1700rpm, and dead silent. The MBP temps were always higher at idle and load, but I really don't mind higher temps for a quieter system...I really only want fan noise when my chips start to go critical....80c +, or while gaming.
