    I have stock NP8130 with 8 gigs. I got an extra 8 gigs of ram this weekend, same speed as original. Both sticks work however I can only get to boot with one. Beyond the keyboard, both slots are used with the old ram, the new one I added in the easy to access part of the machine. When I add the bottom one, system boots, I see 12 gigs, all is good. When I add the second one (on top of the other new one), I can't get the machine to boot. Machine turns on for a short time, HD light gets on for a second and then laptop shuts down. Memtest on both sticks are negative, they work perfectly, memtest didn't find any errors.

    Any idea what can be wrong? Memory is not a kit, two sticks of the same model. Can that be the problem? Do I absolutely need a kit? Or is it a motherboard/bios issue?

    Thanks for your time!

    Every time we've had this issue replacing the offending stick fixed the issue every time, memtest or not, its a internal voltage thing.

    I agree with Mythlogic on this one. If the RAM is correct, you don't need a kit. It sounds like you have a faulty stick in the set that you're using. (If both slots work, that also narrows it down to being the memory). I'd suggest switching them out for new sticks of RAM.

    Either of the sticks separately work. Together they don't. No matter what stick I put into the upper slot, it doesn't work.

    Stick A -> Slot A (bottom): OK
    Stick B -> Slot A (bottom): OK
    Stick A -> Slot B (top): No good.
    Stick B -> Slot B (top): No good.

    So I don't believe it's a memory issue, unless I missed something ... :(

    You may be right. If BOTH modules work in one slot and NONE of the modules work in the other slot. Well 2+2 = 4. Contact your dealer for a possible RMA.... :(
