I just got this new NP8150 with a 6990m in it. Last night I was trying various games on the laptops own display to try performance. Everything was buttery smooth.

Later when I plugged the laptop into my large desktop monitor, and ran a game on the larger display, I got very poor frame rates. 20-30 fps instead of 60ish. Both displays are 1080p so they should run identically.

    Any ideas?

In the off chance that you're using HDMI at 120hz, try changing it to 60hz or switching to another input method.

Otherwise, is your laptop monitor on while you're using the external display? Do you have the newest AMD drivers?

    I was using DVI.

I just updated the drivers from the ones that came on the driver disk, and it seems to have resolved the issue.

I should have known better than to assume that anything that came on a cd was up to date. :p
