I've been playing BF4 beta the last few days and for some reason my laptop will suddenly power off - not blue screen just off. At first I thought my power came out and my battery died but that's not the case. When checking that I noticed that the power plug going into the laptop was burning HOT. I popped the case and gave both the CPU and GPU fans a good cleaning.
The temps don't seem to be all that high.

I have had that happen before when I had that model.
Is annoying and a bummer because no one could figure out ever. I did down the road later have the MB power regulator go bad and get replaced. Needless to say I did have it power off one other time still.
Could be PSU failing though, maybe not providing enough power? Otherwise it will be the MB.
If it starts to happen more frequent I would see if you can source a PSU to test with. -
There is another thread with a user selling the np8150 for parts because... the power plug got too hot and melted. Now it doesn't make a good connection.
Speaking of, if it gets hot at the plug, it implies the connection is not good. I.e. if it is just barely making contact, then it is like all that power going through a thin wire. It will get hot until the plastic melts...
See if there is a spring type connector that isn't pressing as strong as it should. If you try bending, be careful, as half a milimeter maybe OK, but a full milimeter maybe too much. -
Coincidently my P150hmx with 6990m also have similar problem yesterday, I've check the plug it remains normal temp though, my gfx also doesn't seem to be overheating (I've clean the vents)
My screen just goes blank/some grey screen/ black and remain unresponsive. I tried running purely on plug-in source without battery but it just happened again. Any diagnostics I can do to know what is the source of the problem? Gfx doesn't have any sort of artifacts, might be MB issue? -
This sometimes happens to me as well during gaming. I don't think its a thermal issue, I monitor them closely and they're fine. I've never touched the plug when that happens but it feels ok when I power off later.
Don't know what it is, I shrug it of and keep gaming -

Is the brick responsive after a shutdown or do you have to plug it in again?
