    Good Morning,

I bucked up and bought the above system (Clevo P650HS-G, what is shows as the model on the bottom) straight from Sager. At idle it hovers around 45C and gaming (playing Black Ops 3) it has reached upwards of 97C. Now it doesn't stay there. It will hover around the mid 80's while gaming. I am concerned that this is not normal. This is my first gaming laptop which will eventually replace my desktop system. Should I be concerned? Another side note, the bios is neutered bad. There is hardly any options to do anything. I can't even undervolt through the bios. I have played around with the Intel XTU program, don't know if that really helped or not. Any help would be appreciated. I really like the system but the temps are scaring me. I have some pictures of the temps using HWmonitor but I don't know how to upload them :(

Not normal. My P650RS under normal (not max fan) hits a cpu temp in the upper 70s.

If your a computer guy, just repaste, will probably solve it. If your not RMA through Sager.

Is it spending very long at 97C? Or is it just a quick spike and then the fans kick in to bring it down?

@Galm Wow, I hope you did not mean that the way it looks....

@Matthew Gary Could you do what pat asked and check how it is spiking? Could you do a run of MSI afterburner during game play and take a screenshot of the graphs showing clocks, temperatures and usage?

If you have an external monitor or TV available, you could came on one screen and put a temp program up on the second one to keep an eye on it easier.

No it only spiked up to 97C then went down to the mid 80's until I stopped playing.

How do I upload the screenshots? Thx I saw it get up to 95c during gameplay. The GPU was lower than the CPU by at least 10c. This is driving me crazy.

Had to redo the links as the first set of pictures were too small to see the temps. Hopefully these are better. Sorry

Meaker, here are some screenshots of the temps.

What's funny is that it takes a few minutes to get that hot and stay in that range (80's). I don't have to be gaming long. Also I noticed that when it does get that high that the fans do not go full blast. If I hit FN +1 then the max fan speed kicks in. It doesn't do it on it's own. As I'm typing this the GPU is sitting pretty at 38C while the CPU is going from 40C - up to 60C doing basically nothing.

To add to the above: I don't get any freezing or anything when the temps are this high and during gaming. But I also don't play that long with those temps. On my desktop my CPU has never gotten this high. My intention was to replace the desktop with this laptop, not sure if that is going to be an option with this heat. Thanks for all of you guys assisting me with this.

I'll help j00 tomorrow as I'm in bed now on my Galaxy S7

Or if someone can teach him how to run throttle stop and a -40mV undervolt on the core/cache ratio

No, temps at any one moment are not that interesting.

Something like that, a spread of clocks etc over time so we can see what is really going on.

I logged into his laptop via TeamViewer and setup ThrottleStop for him with 4 diff. profiles for usage depending on his needs. I undervolted the max speed profile by -70mV and now the temps are better.

    Awaiting his feedback

Gaming of course for the time being is not getting as high as it was getting. Now it will hover around mid to high 70's and occasional hit the 80's.

Sorry for the off-topic post but I don't really see any other way to contact you, why'd you end up getting rid of your Clevo for an MSI? Didn't you have two 1080s? Do you like the 7820HK better than your silicon lottery 6700k? Do you like the FHD better than the 3K?

    see my reply here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/evoc-p870dm3-review-by-phoenix.798685/page-17#post-10440302

    Also:

I for one will never purchase a Clevo anymore, at least for the near future until they change these things:

1- Will never want to ever want to type on their crappy/cramped keyboards which are the worse keyboards I ever used on any laptop in my life! See: Clevo makes the worst laptop keyboard EVER!

2- I will not support or buy anything from a company that does not offer a proper drivers download page with download speeds averaging 25KB/S and many disconnections / downloading again with my download manager to get 1 download finished that would take anywhere from 1-5 hours depending on the driver file size. Hello 2017, we're no in the Dial up age anymore. Sure, Sager's site has fast downloads, but they are usually outdated drivers compared to the ones Clevo offers

3- I will not support a company that makes users beg and look around trying to find the latest BIOS/EC Firmware. If it wasn't for Prema, I wouldn't know where else to get these updates (legally from the manufacturer site that is)

4- For offering such high end laptops, the least they could do is offer good heatsinks that make good contact with the CPU. It's a matter of luck with a Clevo laptop to get a good heatsink or a poor one, making the use of thin pastes like Liquid Ultra a hit or miss which has to be remedied by using inferior paste like IC Diamond which is thicker to fill in the gap.

Seems I spoke too soon. Playing for a few minutes online the temps went up to high 80's. Tried the different profile settings and still disappointing. I really think that I may have got one of those lemons as far as the cpu goes. The GPU is right on. I just cant take the high temp of the cpu.

Now I'm having second thoughts on getting a new Clevo for 4000+ bucks !

I would have readily bought an MSI if I was able to customize it a little bit, like HIDEvolution does. Unfortunately in Germany, I can't even find a reseller who even sells one with an English keyboard :( Being a Programmer, I hate the German layout with all the strange combinations for braces and slashes etc.

The only other option I have where I can customize the build is Alienware. Still waiting on them to release the 17 inch with Kaby Lake + GTX 1080. Oddly, at the moment they only offer either Skylake + 1080 or Kaby Lake + GTX 1070.

Guess I'll wait few more days for updates on the new models.

Please do make a review of ur new MSI when u have played around with it :)

    1) the Alienware 17 R4 with upgraded cooling is available form HIDevolution, then you can call Dell and transfer your warranty for free from the US to Germany:
    Custom Built Alienware 17 R4-HID58 (Late 2016) - 3K QHD Tobii - nVIDIA GTX 1080

    2) What is more important to you, hardware components or the keyboard? to me, I found out the hard way after owning the P870DM, then the Eurocom Sly X9 (which is the same laptop but from Eurocom), then the EVOC P870DM3, which all use the same keyboard, that I cannot live another day and type in this cramped keyboard

    3) If keyboard is important, then MSI SteelSeries keyboards are the best IMO as they have excellent key travel, well spaced out keys, but the only gripe is they moved the Windows key from the bottom left to the bottom right. BUT, their cooling is better than the Alienwares. During our testing when they were building my laptop and after applying Liquid Ultra Thermal on the CPU, max temps under AIDA64 were 75C

The Alienware's keyboard is no slouch as well, it makes use of the entire bezel so no wasted space on the left/right like on the Clevo laptops.

don't get me wrong, the Clevo laptops are excellent in all departments hardware wise, it's just their keyboard and lack of support that spoils the overall package IMHO

Why don't you email [email protected] or call him and see what they can do for you in terms of pricing as an NBR member. You would at least get the support of either Alienware / MSI in addition to the excellent support/customer service from HIDevolution and you can customize the laptop to your liking and be sure that they do the best paste jobs out there and stress tests so you get a laptop that works great out of the box with no surprises.

Saving a few bucks here and there to avoid taxes/and import fees may sound great at first, but you may regret it on the long run and wish you had gone with a fully customizable laptop from an awesome system builder that is better in terms of quality control than the regular stock that MSI or Alienware or ASUS or any other brand sells

Finally, see my MSI order thread here, review ill come soon when I receive the laptop: Ordered a MSI GT73VR 7RF TITAN PRO-425 from HIDevolution

Thanks m8 :) I already looked at the option to get it from HIDevolution. Taxes and shipping alone comes to 1000+. Anyways I'll give it another thought and perhaps talk to Donald about this. On the other hand, I wish MSI or Alienware had mechanical keyboards. That would be awesome.

Apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread. I'll leave this now. I hope you get your thermal issues solved. May be you need to re-paste the CPU. It's not that bad to do it in the Clevos.

Yup, those temps look great man. Congratulations ! Don't worry unless ur CPU is hitting 100 (that's the T-Junc, max temp for Intel CPUs) and throttling down under load.

Before the assistance of phoenix I was getting into the 90's. Now I'm maxing around mid 80's here and there. So that is an improvement.

Do a repaste with ICD and Gelid GC Extreme and you'll be fine... Otherwise, those temps are ok.. Might as well do it now as you'll have to do it later..

I'm pretty picky about temps and those temps look good even to me. :)

I read that the gelid doesn't last too long before having to reapply. Do you have any experience with thermal grizzly? I read that was some good stuff.
