    Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a smaller charger, one that can be used to travel around with for the NP8170. Anyone come across such a thing?

    Thanks!

You can buy one of the many small travel chargers that come with multiple jacks to match your system.

However, you will have to ensure it has sufficient wattage to power the notebook in the minimum to medium power states and stop the laptop from trying to change to a higher power state for both the CPU and especially the GPU.

You will not find a travel charger that has enough wattage to match the original adapter but it may provide enough wattage to run the laptop in power saver mode and with the GPU state locked to the lowest power state / idle clocks.

While you can get a travel charger for them (most resellers have one available)- it won't affect the power brick size much/at all. That's because the wattage needed to run the machines basically sets the size of the power brick needed to supply said wattage.

What Clevo / Sager should do is copy the design of Dell M6400/6500 adaptor which is also rated 240w but only 1/2 thickness of the np8170 and a little wider, basically the size of DVD case. This makes finding a capable laptop bag much eaiser.

That and the length of the power cord to actually provide enough length for the brick to reach the floor...I hate the Clevo/Sager short power cord with a vengeance...

I guess Clevo / Sager always put production cost above everything else. Anyone forgot the universal keyboard? :p

For those who need an adapter on the go can modify this Dell adaptor to work with their laptop. They are both 19v 240w
