    hi,
i couldn't find this information on google , so i'm asking here.
Is the Sager NP8170 capable to support 32 gb RAM?
I was in the manual (Clevo P170 HM) there is 4 dimm but they said we cannot tuse the 2 under the keyboard and the Crucial website said it's 16 gb max.
    Thanks for your help

Yeah, 32gb shouldn't be a problem, it was a configuration option back in the day. If I remember right don't go any faster than 1600mhz and stay away from the HyperX and you should be just fine. Be sure also to have Win 7 Pro 64bit or higher on the system otherwise you won't be able to access all of the RAM installed.

The 2 under the keyboard are not considered user upgradable because of the extra work to get to them. But the removal of the keyboard is pretty easy and you can upgrade them once you get to them.

yeah, i was about to ask the same. afaik the highest stock speed the hm laptops support is 1866 mhz, thus the 2133 kingston hyperx dont work. but i have seen samsung 1600 sticks oced to 2133 on a p170hm already :p aside from that, hyperx modules should work just fine, shouldnt they?

They may, I just seem to recall some compatibility issues being more prevalent with the HyperX modules than we saw with most other brands. Caused instability more often than not.

Hmm, each is different I suppose. I've been running 16 gigs of HyperX in mine since it came in and I haven't seen the slightest of issues.

I don't want to press the issue, you see a LOT more laptops than I do Hust, but what kind of instability? Was it just disappearing performance? Or are we talking crashes and blue screens?

You are right that every stick is different, and I may also be remembering incorrectly, but I do seem to recall that the HyperX had a higher rate of BSOD and Windows crashes than we like to see when we were putting them in there. We blow through a lot more machines than any individual user though, so we may see patterns that are never to be seen in normal usage with our testing, but I'm pretty sure there was an issue with it to the point where we told customers we wouldn't do it. Nothing stopping you from trying, just giving my two cents, worst case scenario is you get something different and return the HyperX.

We do see a lot of these Sager machines shipping with Samsung memory so we know that's pretty well liked by the machines but yeah, I'd stick to the brands you know and as Jaybee suggests Samsung and Corsair should treat you pretty well.
