OK I have been futzing around with this all week long and think I have FINALLY come up with the build I want.

    Sager NP8170
17in Super Clear Ultra Bright 1920x1080
    I7 2670QM 2.2
    8GB DDR3 memory
    2GB ATI Radeon 6990
    Primary - Crucial 128 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT128M4SSD2
    Secondary - 750GB 7200 Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache
    IC Diamond Thermal

No Overclocking - at this time.

Any suggestions to improve performance without drastically increasing price?

Get an upgraded wireless card. The stock one is just horrible, poor range and poor performance. You can get an intel 6300 for cheap and it's quick and easy to install. The difference between them is amazing.

Looks really good. I agree with NoPeace about the upgraded wireless card. The Intel 6300 or Bigfoot 1103 is also popular. Don't forget Windows if you don't own an OS you plan on putting on there.

Thanks, I sent the update in and requested they add the Intel 6300.

I hope you don't mind if I chime in on the back end of your configuration, but I just have a couple things to add.

Is there a reason why you need 750GB? If not drop that drive down to 500, and put the extra money towards a better SSD.

I'm not sure what exactly you will be using the computer for, but the Crucial M4 just isn't competing compared to Patriot, OCZ, and Samsung. Check out this article here:

I made that decision based off of reviews I read here.

    OCZ Vertex 3 120GB Review

    Conclusion
The OCZ Vertex 3 120GB offers overall impressive performance but there are some down sides to this SSD. Its performance is very dependent on the compressibility of the data used. Therefore the Vertex 3 is not a very good choice for people that work a lot with compressed video, images or music. For those people the Crucial M4 SSD is faster. Another downside is the relatively high power consumption. People looking to maximize battery life in their laptops are better off with other SSDs.

Long-term reliability is another question mark for the Vertex 3. It’s commonly known that the first generation Sandforce drives had quite a lot of problems. The new generation might be more reliable but there is no proof yet. There are some signs that reliability might still not be where it should be. Still, only time will tell how reliable these drives really are.

I will take a look at Samsung and Patriot

Thanks sha7bot but I am going to stick with the Crucial.

The OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS 120GB SATA III Sandforce w/3x NAND Solid-State Drive. I didn't realize that the review I was reading was for a different drive in the same series but after checking reviews on this drive I am going to avoid it.
