so im going to buy a np8170 from xoticpc
everything is pretty much kept default
    i just added these
    - 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM, 2.2-3.1GHz, (32nm, 6MB L3 cache) (SKU - S2N224)
    - ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD6990 2048MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11 $100 OFF (SKU - S3R151) :D
    - 750GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache) (SKU - S5R308)
just wondering if i should add more ram to 12gb or have the 8gb 1600MHz
    and
can someone tell me if i should have the 500 hybrid instead and how much difference does this make

and also how does xoticpc give the nbr discount, i just want to know how it works

Here's a review of the Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive: AnandTech - Seagate's Momentus XT Reviewed, Finally a Good Hybrid HDD. The benchmarks definitely show significant improvements over the regular HDD.

It's performance is definitely not up to par with SSDs, but significantly better than the regular ones so I think it's worth shelling out the extra cash for the hybrid drive.

Are you going to be using this laptop for huge Photoshop projects and such? If not, 8GB is more than enough. As for Hybrids, I'd say no. I actually bought an Intel SSD and ended up selling it because I barely noticed a difference between it and a Scorpio Black. Just partition your OS/programs to the inside of your HDD and you're set

I've heard really bad things about hybrids. You can get a decent 128GB SSD for ~$200. Worth every penny imho.

There are some available for that price. You just have to be willing to look at last generation SSD's that are a little slower and/or smaller capacity. It won't amount to much of a difference in overall speed, but you can save quite a bit of money.

1 drop both the 1600mhz ram plan and the 12gb, you dont need both. 8gb ddr3 with $50 off ram special is the best right now.

2 if you are feeling rich buy ssd :) if not buy any 7200rpm drive and when the hard drive price falls buy a hybrid . I used a hybrid before its really fast. Or if you have enough money buy two 500gb momentus xt hybrids , though they are coming out with a new model next month !

If you watch for deals you can get a current gen ssd for about $1/GB
