Sager NP8171 / Clevo P670RP6 Replacement Keyboard?

I have a P670RP6 laptop, it's obviously a few years old at this point. The W key has become very sticky, from what I guess is heat issues. It's been a problem for a while, but I've just been making due, and now it's become unworkable. It's not under any support contract at this point, so I was wondering what my options would be?

Is there any way to repair/mitigate this from happening? I haven't seen much in the way of fixing this "stickiness" besides some inconclusive heat shielding concepts. I'm afraid the same issue would pop up again if I bought a direct model replacement.

Also, since these are somewhat niche products, and the device is older, I'm wondering what would be the best options for finding a replacement? I've seen some claim compatibility on eBay with very broad disclaimers, and the shipping time would be in the 4 to 6 week range, which presents a problem at the moment.

I'm hoping someone might have a compatible spare they're willing to sell in the US, or at least advice on what models I should be looking for possibly compatible replacements in more current gen with US shippable stock. I've tried contacting Clevo directly, but have not received a reply, nor from my original system integrator.

I'm a bit disappointment in the purchase overall, with some quality issues I've been facing in terms of fan noise and sporadic brief system freezes, but I frame it in terms of the original purchase price, but now looking at having to pay nearly $100 for a keyboard that will probably melt due to internal heating, makes me want to avoid the company overall in the future.

 

New keyboard and make a heat barrier with some thin plastic sheet to help isolate the keyboard better from the motherboard heat, but its a bit strange that its so bad that the heat damages the keyboard.

And in a quick search on ebay I can see those keyboards for 65$, its not really 100$, and given that its a backlit keyboard it will always be a bit more expensive than basic laptop keyboards.

 

I mean your lucky i want a new keyboard for the p670RSG same keyboard as yours but I need a UK my best option is getting a turkish/german and swapping keycaps

also I have never heard of this device getting so warm that it makes keys "sticky"
if anything it sounds like you jsut have never cleaned/wiped down your keyboard before and the dirt buildup has just finally caught up.

that and your sporadic freezes /loud fans. it seems more like to clean your fans/vents and replace the thermal paste your hitting thermal limits from the sounds of it

this system usually runs fairly cool so before you blame a company maybe do some maintenance on your system first

to get a system to have issues to that effect you better look into it internally, its currently over 20c here and my fans are on idle
here are my temperatures this is with about 10% cpu usage and my thermal paste replaced and system cleaned about 7 months ago.


my fans started ramping up around 50c and 40% cpu usage
even with 30% cpu usage and setting the fans to idle it only hovered around 56c

last time I cleaned my system it was because I was constantly running at a higher temperature than above and it wasnt even summer.
(like the high 60s in idle even and maxing fans did nothing)
and when I used the FN+1 command to make my fans run at max the temperatures were hardly dropping.

I when I replaced my paste I removed a small carpet of dust buildup and the difference is night and day.

I recommend you get speccy and post a screenshot of your system temps.
Even in current heat gaming under load my CPU gets closed to 80c only but I usually use the mentioned key combo to max out fans during that time (so it only hits the high 60s) as I usually wear a headset and dont hear it.

Are these with US shippable stock? All I saw were locations in Asia on eBay, and direct websites I found, and I don't believe it would get through customs before late June at this point. I've been looking for about a week now for any marked as shipped from the US. Mostly I was just after alternative/compatible part numbers to see if I was missing something. If that's what you were referring to, I would greatly appreciate that information. For US shippable stock, $100 + a decent amount of shipping charge is all I found, which given the global circumstances is somewhat understandable, but I was hoping to find alternates.

I was hoping it was this too, but I can confirm it 100% isn't. I took the cap off, cleaned, and tested with it off, and when depressing, you can see the membrane itself not pop back up, as described in the following post, same processor I believe too. Different keyboards and such, but similar issue. You can see and even hear, with the cap off, the inner membrane layers not separating after contact. This isn't really an area much can penetrate, it's internal to packing.

As for the other concerns, the system was re-pasted, and I do clean it out. The fan noise wasn't related to RPM, but even at low RPM it sounds like a bad bearing, a cyclic grinding. Again, it's something I can replace myself, but it has costs, and a time component waiting for it arrive from an Asian distributor. Overall, my expectations were higher, that's all, and randomness can always happen, just an unlucky few components.

 

yeah it does sound unlucky and your best bet for keyboards is always gonna be sites like aliexpress or the asian resellers on ebay.

my previous laptop had the fan bearings go in under a year so it was random, my current onesare going fine and its heavily used.
