Well last week my 8250 started acting up out of nowhere. Wouldn't turn on, then it gets power but nothing loads. Swapped the ram around, purged the power, no change so it's feeling like the motherboard. Now this machine isn't even 18 months old but I was too late to put insurance on it when I bought it. So that means it's an out of pocket fix.

Is the motherboard a difficult repair? I can follow directions and aren't afraid to do it myself but flit there's soldiering then I'm out. Is it even worth repairing? What kind of price would it typically run if I sent it into sager for repair?

I'm thinking about just getting a gigabyte p34w when it comes out. Sager kinda left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm looking for similar specs in a smaller frame. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Clevo shouldn't have a bad taste in your mouth from that. Sometimes equipment just fails. Sometimes they last super long.

Anyway, I don't think the mobo is difficult. Not for a clevo. You'll need to download the service manual for your model, which can be found here or at techinferno. I don't know which model the 8250 is, but if it's under 2 years old it must be fairly recent. Probably a late ivy bridge model?

Motherboards and barebones units can be purchased from places like RJTech, or you can (since you own a sager) ask to purchase a replacement motherboard or ask if you can ship to them and have them do repairs on it for you.

Alternately, Mythlogic used to offer this kind of repair/replace service for other Clevo owners. I no longer know their stance on the matter, but it may be worth contacting them. Please use the Clevo model name when dealing with non-sager companies, though. Clevo unit names are constant throughout the industry no matter who you buy from and who you talk to.

    Hi,

I don't know were you live, but in France ( and all UE i think) standard warranty is 2 years, verify you don't have something like that :)

Well, a motherboard replacement will always be cheaper than a brand new laptop, but you need to be sure that is the issue. Otherwise you are just throwing money at the problem.

Agreed. I'm thinking of just tearing it down to the mb to see if something has be bumped loose. The laptop has taken some falls so I can see something like that to be a problem.
