Can someone tell me about the three options that XoticPC offers for this model? What panels are they using? Is the 72% gamut screen the AUO B173HW01 V5 and the 90% gamut model the AUO B173HW01 V4?

The colour can be more accurate, it does not necessarily mean over saturated. I have the 90% panel in my P570WM and it is a bit at stock but it just needs some tweaking.

Those models you listed are typically used but it can change at any time depending on what is available. The only thing we can say for sure is the resolution and gamut coverage will be the same.

I ordered a standard panel for my specific laptop and I can say, I regret it. The screen is noticeably grainy. The higher quality panels usually mean that you will have a clearer image when using the computer, so I recommend maybe the 90% panel.

This is my last decision to make before I place my order Friday. Definitely upgrading. But since I'll be using it for photoshop as well as gaming, I'm leaning towards the 90% glossy even though I'm not going to like it as much for gaming.

I actually prefer matte for photoshop and glossy for gaming. Glossy screens are more vibrant which makes them better for gaming.

Just be sure to use the right color space, and get it calibrated and you'll be good with either. -

All Sager screens are TN, there are no IPS available at this time. Sager doesnt offer color calibration. You can do so yourself once you get the computer, and some resellers offer doing it too.

This thread, post #4. I took it to mean they don't recommend pre calibration, ie from a builder/reseller?

What I believe they are referring to is when you do the calibration process one of the steps is that the "puck" takes a reading of light in your environment. Since that varies by person and location its not 100% accurate when its done off site. But still the results are typically better then not calibrated at all. This is because a larger process of the calibration is the "puck" sitting on the screen directly and seeing how its colors are rendered. That stays constant regardless of environment. -
If I had y'all calibrate mine, best bet would be to go into a closet, shut the door, and have at it. That's basically what I live in

Yep, pretty much

There is also the issue that the panel will drift over time, if you like the colours fairly accurate then factory calibration is fine, if you need it dead on you should have your own colour calibration setup.

The calibration devices mentioned are starting at a fairly low price nowadays, too. You can find entry level models at just under $100. With that, you have something to use over the lifetime of the display/computer, which comes in handy when the calibration drifts.
