I had bought a Sager NP 8651 for my wife back in February from XotiPC but since she was a little busy and didnt get time to game much the laptop wasn't used for gaming till recently.

Now the issue that happens is on loading a game, a beeping sound starts and the laptop shuts down. Thinking this was a temperature problem , I monitored the CPU and GPU temps and CPU reached like 72 and GPU was like 60-65 when the beeping started.

To eliminate this as a fan problem, I opened up the Hotkeys application and set the fan to full speed but before I even opened the game the beeping starts! So this isn't actually temperature related but somehow fan related.

Any help on what could be the problem here? A faulty bios or a faulty fan?

could be a number of things.
try a EC reset. remove battery and mains plug then press and hold down on/off button for 20 seconds.
then plug in with mains only and boot up as normal and see how long it lasts.
if it does the same do another 20 second reset and then try with battery only .

if it still does it then next to check would be ram and hard drive unless someone else can come up with a better idea.

another thing, the psu power brick, is there still a light on it or have you heard any noises from it.

There may be a problem with the fan's tachyo not reporting its rpm to the EC; it will auto-shutdown after ~6x beeping and flashing caps/num lock leds if that is the case. Run HWiNFO -> sensors, under 'Clevo EC' it should show current and max. fan rpm ('Safety -> EC Support' has to be marked). If these are non-zero under load and the fan spins up then there's something else amiss.

If they remain at zero; swap cpu/gpu fans. They don't have to be screwed in place, just attaching connectors is fine for research. Also eliminate the game itself by running a gpu benchmark thingy.

Thanks for the replies. Actually I loaded the game again yesterday night and this time it worked fine with no beeps and sounds. I also changed the fan speed and full and no beeps.

Only thing different from the earlier scenario is that the battery was charging when it happened earlier and this time when I loaded the game, the battery was fully charged. Wondering if that has anything to do with this.

Since I am at work will take a look at it again this evening based on the feedbacks I got.

If it happens again, maybe let us know if there was any error message, or a certain number of beeps. You could also use something like the reliability monitor in Windows to see maybe what crashed.

I am not seeing a Clevo EC in HwInfo even though i have it ticked under Safety for EC Support.

There are no error messages. I just set the fan speed to max from the Hot Key app without turning on any application and the beeping happened and the system shutdown. Turning over the back side, I can see that one of the dual fans was not turning when the beeping happened. But the fan does turn on intermittently so that could be the reason it beeps only occasionally. Changing the fan to automatic from Full speed removes the beeping sound btw since I guess that turns the fans off as the GPU is not being stressed here at all.
