So I read notebookreview's review on the NP8651 or more of the Clevo barebones, and the surface temps are insane! The highest was 75C~. Does anyone have this laptop and how are the temps or noise?

I don't have that laptop particularly, the 980M version because it will be thicker will have more acceptable surface temps (maybe high but less, that's sure).

Those temps were taken after a one hour Furmark+P95, so you'll never experience that but after several hours of gaming it will surely get to the high 60s° under the laptop. Don't play on your lap :) that's all i can say

I would advise against gaming with most machines on your lap, place it on a desk or tray.

I never game on my lap, because I'm afraid the laptop will fall and also the mouse placement is awkward. But I'm more concerned on the chassis health and also the hardware components inside. I don't want to buy a system to find out that the temps are too hot and CPU starts to throttle.

The downside of a metal alloy case is that it will get hotter but so long as the chips themselves are at a reasonable temp then you are fine.

I wouldn't be worried.. From what I've seen, the P650SE runs pretty cool and the 650SG should too.. All the pre-production quirks in the notebookcheck review have been solved and good thermal paste will make heat even more of a non-issue...

Alright thanks guys! But, what's the difference with P650SE and P650SG?

    P65xSE - GTX 970M
    P65xSG - GTX 980M (3/4mm thicker)

Their GPU was also running 80C+ where I barely see it break 60C in most cases, 65C peak on a rare occasion.

Edit: Here's surface temps after 30 minutes high stress (Grid 2 "Attract Mode" loop with GPU OC). CPU @ 73C, GPU @ 67C

Turned over with the lid closed usually results in high case temps too.

Well I had the laptop propped up and reached underneath with the laser thermometer, wasn't upside down and closed when running.

Those temps are crazy good and makes me wish these laptops came with a better stock screen.
A nice IPS 1080p screen with the 970M would make this a epic laptop.
Sort of off topic but...HTwingnut did you get your replacement screen yet? What screen did you order?
Would love to see before and after pictures and maybe some tips on how to replace.
The stock screen is the only thing holding me back from getting one with the 970M, not crazy about spending another $250 on a 3K/4K screen and I figure if I'm spending more money anyway might as well get the GTX 980M...but those temps with the 970M :)

I ordered the Samsung LTN156HL01-102. It hasn't arrived yet. Hopefully before Thanksgiving! It arrived at customs in Chicago on Friday, and I live in Detoit area, and as far as I know mail still moves on the weekends, it just doesn't get delivered, so with any luck today, maybe tomorrow.
