My Sager NP8652 was running great... Until one day it rebooted and didn't want to come back on.

What surprises me is it was running just fine before the reboot, rebooted to switch from Ubuntu to Windows, and it just died. Screen would not activate, no output on HDMI.

Tried reseating ram and swapping HDD, noting worked. Appears to be a Motherboard failure?

When I try to turn it on, I get flashing led lights across the front (caps lock, scroll lock, and numlock). This flashing code seems to be indicative of a motherboard failure.

Odd that it was working one second and dies while reboot. This laptop sits on a desk , I don't really move it around. Very odd to break like this.

Anyway, I got an RMA from XoticPC and send it back to Sager last week.

This laptop is only about 17 months old. Apparently I don't have the extended warranty, and I'm out of luck.

Get ready for sticker shock: Sager tells me it will be ~$600 USD to replace the motherboard. That's about half of what the laptop is worth.

At this point what are my options?

I hate to pay 1/2 the value of the laptop for a repair on something that is only ~17 months old.

Would I be better to just have it sent back to me (not repaired) part it out? Would I even get any value back that way? (LCD screen and case probably the main value for parts???).

I can live without my laptop, may just cut my losses and go without for now.

My main fear is ,,, this is an expensive repair and very much fear it could just happen again a few months again down the road.

I'm sorry to see that your computer is having issues like that. If there is anything I can do to help with, please let me know what I can do for you.

That's a tough spot to be in. Hopefully you wouldn't have to see the same issue again, if you are getting the motherboard replaced. You could try selling it as it is, and see if anybody else might want it for parts themselves. Selling it out piece by piece might take a while, but could be worth it. I suppose it just depends on what you might be saving yourself (SSD/HDD), and what all is still sellable. You could keep an eye out for anybody else who might be selling out pieces on their computer and see if you could grab the motherboard yourself. You might be able to repair it, and try selling it for more than the repair cost you at some point in the future at least. I suppose it just depends on what you think might be the best situation for you.
