I recently purchased the Sager NP8657-S from XOTICPC. I hooked this up through HDMI to an ASUS PA248Q external monitor that I have had for the last couple of years. I am having issues with this setup. Specifically, I get random screen dropouts where the screen will flash black or with snow for 1-2 seconds and then come back. I had read online that if you have a laptop with a 3 prong power adapter and a monitor with a 3 prong that it can cause interference. I bought a 2 prong adapter for the monitor and thought I had the problem solved. But I rebooted the laptop a couple of nights ago and now the flicker is back.

The flicker completely disappears if I take out the power supply from the laptop...which leads me to believe that this is still some sort of interference problem? Could this be a bad power brick or power cord?

I previously had a Toshiba laptop hooked up to this monitor through HDMI and never had any issues like this. Just trying to understand the best order of operations to troubleshoot this given the behavior above. Thanks.

Do you know if you have the same issue if you hook the laptop up to a different monitor? Have you tried using a different HDMI cable possibly, or possibly trying a different connection instead?

Hi Pat...I sent you a direct email. Would like to talk to you a little bit more about my options. To answer your question above, I am going to try and hook it up to my TV with HDMI this coming weekend to see if I see the behavior. I have tried a different HDMI cable and still have the same issues. The flickering really gets bad when we ramp up Netflix and go full screen. I am going to try the DisplayPort connection this weekend (had to buy an adapter because the monitor has a regular DisplayPort connection and the laptop has a Mini).
