While gaming or surfing the web. Is it loud as or louder than the Inspiron E1705??? I've been hearing that the fan is pretty loud but I don't know how loud it can get. just want to know.

    Surfing the web: silent.

Gaming: it blows, but not enough to bother me.

Also, personally, when doing basic internet browsing, the fan is running a bit.

    Silient mode is dead silent.

Surfing the web: LOUD BLOWS ALL THE TIME NEVER STOPS, unless in silent mode.

Gaming: MUCH LOUDER, unless in silent mode.

Example, I started playing CoD4 in silent mode because the fan was getting way too annoying on normal when I was playing with my buddies. By myself and with headphones on I don't mind the noise because of the performance.

Right now, I'm on NBR with MSN running and fans are running a bit loud. But its not really high picthed so that's not really annoying.

In a week or so, I'll be able to give you a comparison to e1705 (I have that now, and my np8660 is in UPS' hands) ^_^

(I was going to PM you to avoid resurrecting thread, but I didn't find out how quickly enough)

Definitely quieter than e1705. I just put that one to sleep so it would shut up while I'm working on the new laptop. Honestly, I only noticed the fan was on after I hit silent mode and it turned way down even further. I do however have a buzzing/whine noise. I believe its mostly caused by the fan (I stopped the fan, and the noise stopped), but haven't looked into it any further yet.
