So this model based on Clevo M860TU can be upgraded to a quad core or extreme processsor expandable to 8GB Ram right? Which is better quad or extreme? Could better CPU's be made in the future to upgrade to? The graphics card is also interchangeable? Would it be very likely that a much better card will come out that it can upgrade to? or is nVidia Quadro FX2700M 512MB the best that it will get?
This is a very upgradeable laptop for around $1400 (from xoticpc.com), is there any other laptop that is more upgradeable for no more than $1400?

for mobile quad-cores.... not supported at the moment (for BIOS and motherboard revision)
- its high-end (256-bit mem interface), and bang for the buck.
yes, the vidoecards in these current Clevo gaming notebooks are MXM Type IV.
So far the MXM-IV for Clevo notebooks have seen:

- 8700M GT
- 8700M GT SLI (with Clevo D901C)
- 8800M GTX
- 8800M GTX SLI (with Clevo D901C)
- 9800M GTS
- 9800M GTS SLI (with Clevo D901C)... not confirmed yet
- 9800M GT
- 9800M GT SLI (with Clevo D901C)
- 9800M GTX*
- 9800M GTX SLI (with Clevo D901C)
- Quadro 1600M
- Quadro 2500M
- Quadro 2700M

Thats a lot of videocards for one MXM Type IV slot...

Wow the NP8660 dropped nearly $300 in price. The same configuration that I had ordered and then canceled is only $1819 now. I'd be so pissed if I had gone through with that order lol

Yeah this Christmas sale is a kick in the junk, but then again, I'm glad I jumped in when the 9800GT was still available.
The laptop buying game has taught me that I'll always feel like I bought too early. -
also, it doesn't come with an operating system, I can just install my old windows XP on it right? All the drivers and everything come preloaded right? I'll have to upgrade to vista before I can expand the RAM to 4 or 8 GB but what it comes with should be plenty for now.
Also, about the 8 GB of RAM, would it increase performance that much if at all to go from 4 to 8? Seems like more than can really be used even with Vista.
So how likely is it in the future those CPU's will be supported? Do we just have to wait and see what develops when people put them in themselves? Could better graphics cards be released later on that this laptop will support? Thanks. -

Due to memory addressing overhead the chipset will limit your memory to about 6.8GB usable by a 64bit OS when you install 8GB. A 32bit OS will only be able to use about 3GB regardless of how much memory you install.
You can only use your old Windows XP if it is not an OEM version from another computer, and it has at least SP2 on the disk.
The drivers cannot be loaded before the OS is installed.
Very few people will actually use 4GB much less 6.8GB. What kind of applications are you going to be running?
It is unlikely that the NP8660 will ever support a processor >35 Watts and/or a video card beyond the 9800GT because either one will exceed the thermal budget set by Clevo. While others may be doing it, and it works for now, the heat will end up dramatically shortening the useful life of the laptop. That is why Clevo will not certify their use in the Sager NP8660.
Sager NP8660 upgradeability?
