Has anyone tried Windows 7 on the Sager NP8662 and what were the results? Any driver issues?
-
I'm using it right now, no issues what so ever. If you are installing 64-bit then you will need to manually install the drivers instead of using the exes.
-
I'm on windows 7077 x64, I have only one issue but seriously annoying everytime I open opera or chrome or ie every other thing freeze, with chrome for 2-3minutes with the other until I close them. But it's a unofficial build. I think you might wanna wait the RC1 which is rumored to be released the 5 may
-
I've been using Win 7 64-bit since the public beta started, now using build 7077, and I haven't encountered any compatibility issues yet.
-
Been using W7 since build 7000, never had any major issues with any of them.
With my current 7077 build, I've jumped over to 64-bit with no issues or slowdowns. -
Also been using 7 since public beta, used 7000, 7057, 7068 and now 7077, all x64 with no problems to speak of (though admittedly I am using an M571RU, not an M860TU)

I cant get the drivers for the video card to install... someone want to try and guide me through manually installing the drivers without the exe?
-
Windows 7 works great for me, no issues whatsoever.
-
How are you guys installing the drivers for windows 7 and the graphics card? Are you using the cd that came with the computer? I want to get UPDATED graphics drivers and when I run the executable for the graphics card it fails.
Its the 260M that I have and the installer simply wont work in 64-bit. -
Get the new 185.85 mobile driver from nvidia.com; it's the first one that should support your graphics card. Select 200M Series (Notebook) and 7 64-bit.
-
Hey Kevin, that driver was released yesterday! Haha, i have yet to try that driver. But I will keep you posted.
-
I've just started using Windows 7 RC on my m860tu and I gotta say, I love it. Great stuff. The machine was meant for it.
-
I might try Windows 7 on my NP8662 when I receive it but only if it will have good gaming performance when compared to XP SP3. I wonder if Windows 7 will make better use of my Quads or something. So where did you all get the specific NP8662 Windows 7 drivers such as the ones that interface with the built in short cut keys, for example the ones that control screen brightness, Wifi, BT, Vol etc?
Did you just install the Vista 32 drivers or something? -
Just install the vista drivers from the hardware manager. Everything works in windows 7 like it does in vista. -
Would you guys recommend skipping Vista (64-bit is $97 w/ NP8662 from powerNotebooks) and just getting a release copy of Windows 7 and then paying for it when it's out? Has everything gone pretty smoothly with installing Windows 7 and getting drivers to work that it'd be worth it?
-
-
-
the only problem is maybe u have to pay 300$ for a copy of w7 then...
-
...which is why I say start saving money now. Nothing's free when it comes to MS. Who do you is paying for the beta(of course us)?
If you think about it, a dollar a day is not too bad(since the RC expires in more than 300 days)- hopefully, the final product is rock solid. This is what they should have done with Vista-
Sell stuff- This is how I feed my addiction. -
No - they are going to have an upgrade program for people that bought vista to get a free upgrade to windows 7. So right when they announce the date of that upgrade program, you go to www.newegg.com and buy windows vista home premium for 100 dollars, (or ultimate for like 170) (system builders edition) and then they give you the free upgrade for 7, boom.
-
I have a very crappy experience with upgrades, especially when things don't go the way they should and you have to play phone tag with "tech support."
I wasted over 8 hours just upgrading from vista premium to ultimate(which made the system from slow to unusable).
Anyway, I personally won't buy vista(already have xp) at this point.
But for other people, the "free" upgrade may be worth it- -
You need to realize what Microsoft is doing with Windows 7...
Have you used Windows 7? I've been testing it since RC1 came out. I can say already that it's 10x better than Vista is. I'm not just saying that either. It is truly amazing.
They had a huge blow in the PR department when Vista first came out.
They are not going to get things wrong this time with ANYTHING. All drivers will be 100% ready at launch, all hardware developers will be on the same page, and there will be no mistakes.
It's like when they made Windows Millenium Edition... It sucked and then they quickly put out Windows XP.. And like you said, you're still using XP. -
'been there, done that.
BTW, this is still MS we're talking about. To keep the empire afloat, "tech support" will remain laughable to keep down cost.
I hate the upgrade version of the OS, that's all Im saying-
I will be installing W7 RC1 in the M860ETU-
When it's time to buy the retail version, I'll be ready. -
I suppose I'll just stick with Windows Vista for now if the upgrade will be free or reduced price. I know W7 will be better than Vista... Right now, I'm getting Windows Vista premium for $97 with my laptop. Hopefully the transition to Windows 7 won't be too traumatic or costly ($300 - I will never pay that for an OS).
Installing the current release from a DVD sounds iffy. I don't even have a computer w/ a drive that can burn right now, I don't know where I'm going to burn 20 gb to a DVD... -
-
Oh, yeah, sorry... 20 gigs in the end. The 64-bit RC is 4 gigs right now?
If I somehow download this and burn it to a disc, is it relatively straightforward to install it? Sorry... I've been programming in C forever, but I've never installed an OS. -
If you can program in C, you can install an OS--
Just click, click, click- ok.
You're done! -
-
If he's feeling queasy, just have a spare drive handy and practice on that.
Like I said, if he can program in C, he can install an OS-
Just take your time and go to the Windows forum for installation tips--
Or I'm sure someone already posted a step by step instructions online- -
Set up fresh Win7 x64 RC, all but SD/MMC were recognized. Manual install fixed it. After upgrading default video driver to latest NVidia one noticed a slow down and some artefacts in Crysis...No other probs so far...
BTW, laptop is a Russian clone of M860TU (T9400, GF9800 GTS, 4G RAM, 320GB 5400rpm) -
This way I can keep multiple handy OS backups- -
Didnt try that - no reason, sorry -
Thanks- I guess I'll find out tonight- -
How much RAM is Win7 using up for you guys? I've got 1.21GB on idle (basic theme, firefox, kaspersky antivirus, and msn). I heard other people's Win7 using only around 800mb or so on average :\.
-
im using windows 7 64bit with my 8662/m860tu and while perfomance seems good ive a couple of big issues..
sleep mode not working 20% of the time... using 185.85 or any driver for that matter..
Bootup blackscreen that needs to be moved around to refresh to normal scrn
on build 7000 still thou..
also my temps are quite high..
my sistem is running 65 on the GPU just using desktop/broswer...
i have a external 1920x1200 monitor connected.. but the noise of the fans 1-2 levels bellow max at all times is really anoying.
any links help? -
I did an upgrade install to 7 RC and everything went quite smoothly, but the webcam doesn't appear to be working properly...all the other drivers moved over fine
-
-
does the sager come with vista sp1 or the normal one ?
-
I've been running build 7100 since I got my NP8662 2 days ago. So far no problems. Battery life kind of sucks but that could be to the Q9000, or something else. I've never had another OS on this so I don't have anything to compare it to. Other then having flaky wireless at work everything has worked great. Played some Supreme Commander Forged Alliance last night with no problems.
