Hi! I've recently bought an Q9200 ES from ebay (on it's way) and i've asked for help in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...ock-core-2-extreme-multiplier-windows-50.html

I downloaded CPUZ and gathered as much information I could from the motherboard:

    Code:
    Motherboard Model:

Motherboard Chipset: Intel PM45 Rev 07
    (Cantiga-PM) + ICH9M (Base)
    Socket P 478
    Southbridge: 82801IM (ICH9-M)
According to the ebay link the Q9200 supports PM45 and the socket P478 (my laptop), so in other words that means my laptop supports Quad right?

A google search on the Intel PM45 Rev 07 doesn't say much, i'd love to find a changelog on the 0.7 version but I can't seem to find anything, apparently older versions didn't support quad?

    Yeah so i'm a tad worried :p

if your notebook is an NP8662, any quad will work. Just remember to updated your bios to the latest version.

Hi! Yeah i'm already running 0.17 bios.

But this is sooo confusing, the branding that is:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/390563-np8662-m860etu-vs-m860tu-whats-diff.html

    HWINFO tells me:

    Computer Brand Name:
Clevo M860TU which I assumed to be np8662, but apparently it's not

Is there another way for me to verify before my CPU arrives?

    np8660 comes with the Nvidia GeForce 9800M-GT w/ 512MB GDDR3 video memory
my laptop is using the Nvidia GTX 260M 1024GDR3

But that doesn't mean it's not an np8660 with nvidia 260GTX installed?

To see if your M860TU support Quad Core, it's quite simple :

under or near the RAM modules, there is a label on the motherborad. If it's V3.0A or earlier it will not support quadcore. If it's a V3.0A-1 or V3.0C then it will support quadcore.

If my memory serves me right, no M860TU sold by Sager had a GTX 260m gpu in it without quad-core support. The GPU update came after the CPU update. So yeah, you should be fine.

hmm and probably every one sold with a 9800m gt do not support quads. oh well.

im getting another one, ill just have to get a x9100 for it.

does anyone know how to do this same check for m570tu?

    This was true.

Only a couple shady sellers (naming no names) tried to run through old inventory, by shipping the old revision to those who ordered with a Core 2 Duo.
Similarly, if it shipped with the GTX 280M, it was quad compatible.

    Why not? Who was it?
aliennation2010 on ebay sold me my m860tu with a scratched up heatsink and missing parts.
I think we all deserve to know who sells Clevos well and who sells them badly.
Do you know the motherboard revision number?

    I didn't know there was a V3.1A. Just going by numerical progression, with V3. 0A-1 or V3. 0C supporting quads, wouldn't a V3. 1 have to also?

I don't think so, but I do think a 3.1a would. Sounds the same as the 3.0a-1

What was your date of purchase? Was the GTX 260M being offered?

I don't think any quad compatible M86 shipped with the 9800M GTS...
