    Hello all,

Recently the fan in my notebook has started to make very odd noises. When I put my ear up to the chassis I can hear that the fan isn't running very smoothly. I'm already the type of person who takes apart the fan/heat sink are just to give it a good cleaning every now and then (so I always make sure that general area is super clean.) I've taken it apart multiple times since and everything looks to be in working order. I'm kind of out of ideas and could use some help/advice.

Any input greatly appreciated (I'm fairly attached to this laptop and really want to make sure things turn out okay.)

You could have accidentally blown dust into the motor, I killed a fan that way once. At the end of the day, if it worries you, just replace the fan. Better that, than have it quit one day.

Mmm I was thinking about having the fan replaced. Are there any vendors that sell this type of fan specifically?

There are a few places online the specialize in proprietary parts for laptops. They should be easy to find. Google is your friend.

Well I've already tried google and there really isn't much of a turn out. I cant find anything under the lines for a replacement unit.

Did you search by part number?

email Sager and ask them for the part number and have them give you a quote. They've been pretty responsive, but their pricing is quite high. Although for a fan, might cost you $20 and if it's proprietary probably won't get it much cheaper.

Edit: Here's a link to the service manual too (thanks to theriko). Look for M86TU:

    page 51, part #41, part number: 6-31-M860S-102

Only place I see it is from a UK store here: http://clevoweb.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_335&products_id=82

but they do ship internationally. Expensive: £39.00 + £13.47 shipping to USA.

This, along with my other replacement part issues, will make me reconsider buying a Clevo/Sager again. I can't imagine the cost being this expensive for HP or Dell components.

Either way I would still call Sager, it might cost the same, but get it quicker.
