I couldn't be more ecstatic with the arrival of my new Sager NP8662, with the exception of two (potential) issues. Can I get comments/opinions on the following:

    1) Branding:
I've seen a few threads on these forums where doubts were raised about Sager and corporate "branding". Every thread ended the same: with reassurance that, unlike boutique brands, neither Clevo nor Sager (nor XoticPC) branded their laptops.
Well, you can imagine my surprise when I unpacked my new laptop to find an unsightly brand logo on the otherwise sleek and sexy black front panel. If it were just a sticker I could simply remove it, but it seems to be laser etched onto the plastic part of the frame.
    Is this normal?

It seems to be a plastic insert set into the panel frame; I wonder, is it possible for me to remove it from the frame, turn it around, and re-insert it brand-side reversed?
Seeing as the threads I've seen before claimed Sager did not brand, am I just the first unlucky sap they chose to start their free advertising campaign on?

    2) Missing component(s)?
    edit note:
    thanks for the info ss!
On opening the accessories box (containing drivers CD, manual, etc) I noticed there was a styrofoam insert that seemed to hold a component that was not present:

From the shape of the outline can anyone comment as to what it might be and why it may be absent?

Only a notebook from RJTech would not come with any branding. I don't know where you came up with the conclusion that laptops from Sager do not come with branding. You bought your M860TU from Sager, so it comes with their badges. Wear it with honor. Sager is a good company. With that said, could you link me to the threads where you thought that Sager notebooks did not come with any branding?

The missing component is the CPU/GPU heatsink. It is already installed in your machine.

thanks for that, good to know it comes pre-installed.

edit: there were two I distinctly remember, I'll try to dig them up and post a link. Does eurocom brand as well?
I just wish it were a bit more discreet... like non-existent discreet :D

Yes, I would like to see those two threads, thank you.

Haha, how much more discreet do you want your notebook? A jet black aluminium anodized chassis with a single silver accent is very discreet in my book. It's a lot more discreet than my silver backed M570TU. People are not going to know who the f*ck Sager is anyway, which is the same as not having any badges at all. You're still going to get the same ego-satisfying questions from them, especially from Mac users who religiously fly the Apple flag.

    You had me at hello

Search flood prevention is making it hard to find the topics. I wish I had posted in them so I could just do a post-search. After doing just that, I noticed a review I had posted in by livesoft:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3944515
Looks as if his has the same branding but flipped upside down... I guess you're right - since I didn't notice that the first time hopefully it won't be that big a deal.

It's all good. The M860TU is all about performance over looks in the end. Congratulations and enjoy your notebook, @nthony.

It is completely normal to have a Sager logo on your Sager Machine. When you buy from a place that does not brand them and keeps them as received from Clevo, in the past they have said "Stylenote". In my opinion this would not look as good as having it with Sager's name.

Hey Justin, I was just about to send you an e-mail letting you know it had arrived. Hmm, that's interesting to know; I guess depending on the font used "Stylenote" would seem pretty odd.

Here's a novel prospect: if the XoticPC custom-finish covers the entire front panel (including the branding), it can be used as a sort of "brandless" decal option!

Resellers that sell Clevo's "as they come" will sell the system blank. However, they will include the badges if you want to put them on. For example, this is the Style Note badge that came with my M570TU. As for the M860TU, I believe RJTech just sells it with a blank black bezel already installed.

You are correct for the M570 but the M860 AFAIK only comes with the Style Note badge "etched" into the frame as the Sager is on @nthony's system.

Your right! If a custom skin is purchased the entire back panel is covered with the skin. :)

I made an email to RJTech back in December inquiring about the badges on the M860TU. The bezel is blank with no Style Note or Aurora etching.

Yes. Similarly discreet to the Sager branding though.

This is very funny and true. All the people that have asked what the hell I was using have been Apple users. I guess it's the sleek all black look that gets them curious.

Speaking of Stylenote, that's what the Clevo BIOS upgrades end up putting as your boot up screen - any Sager versions of the BIOS out there?

You can always ask Sager for the BIOS or just change the POST splashscreen yourself.

I use the old school boot diagnostics display at POST so it doesn't really matter for me.
