I recently purchased a NP8662. Compared to my old laptop with windows xp, the sound on the NP8662 with vista seems very low... I can max out the volume and listen normally with headphones while on the xp 3 or 4 notches were enough to blast my eardrums lol.
Any hints on how to get louder sound ?

This may sound dumb but have you gone through all the sound options, and turned the sound up through your control panel?

Also, have you used the function key (blue fn key) plus the volume up function button? Hold both of them at the same time until it gets as loud as it can go..

Yeah, I notice this on my 8662 too. It's much quieter than my old laptop (which was also running Vista) both when using speakers and headphones. So I think it's just how the hardware is made.

Yeah I have done all of that. It still is very low.

I play games with mic and headphones and it is pretty loud, although I haven't checked the volume, so it probably isn't at max. You could try reinstalling the realtek audio drivers.

I don't think so, but maybe something's wrong with your driver.

This is a really good tip. The sound seems to amp up when using the front socket connection. But then this is a given for all laptops, or at least everyone I've tested.

Plus using headphones on the run (say with the laptop on the train) is just acting decently.

Make sure your not in power saving mode..I'm not for sure if it will have an effect on this or not...

    Hope this helps

Two sound-too-low treads at the top of the forum?
    Anyways:
Just double-click on your default windows speaker icon in the panel and make sure your WAVE bar is all the way to the top. Although, it actually makes sound too loud for me when I'm using the headphones or external speakers, so make sure you adjust it as needed.
