Who said anything about having money to preorder?

I just put half of the cost on the credit card

I will pay it back in my own time but of course, I won't leave it for too long.

Ha! I don't want to see my next credit card bill either LaptopNut!

I got pretty much the same setup as bviperz too, except XP Pro instead of Vista. I decided to take the "wait and see" approach towards the quad processors.

    :p

I only see an estimated time of arrival of 13th April. I think those in the USA get it quicker from what I have seen so far.

By the sounds of it, most resellers are waiting for the GTX cards and sometimes the quads. I think the new chassis are already in.

Hopefully I will have sold my Asus G1SN by the time my new one arrives.

About $2100 from xotic. Props to the JustinW. Can't wait and test that bad boy! And definitely will drop the impressions I get on the forums. May not be as fancy as the reviews, but I'll be sure to include the 411 you need.

By the time you add all of the missing components you will end up paying quite a bit more unless you already have those or can source them very cheaply.

    Yeah 1059 + 40$ ram + 75 $ hdd + cpu 385$ + gtx 260M 400-500$ there around 1900-2000$ and I'm probably forgotting some things. It's cheaper to buy the whole unit, but less fun :)

It comes out pretty much even to other sellers when you spec the base configuration.

The 260M comes installed Gr00pie. No extra fee.

    The GTX260M is already included-

    Here's my spec:

    $1449 (M860TU+1920x1200+Blue Ray+Wireless) shipped
    $64 (320GB 7200) shipped
    $53 (4GB RAM) shipped
    $249 (Q9100) or $225 (T9600) shipped
    I already have XP Pro
    =====================
    $1815 or $1791

Possible resale value a year from now $1200-$1450.

I initally went the prebuilt route (including vista 64bit) for $1579 (lower res, no blue-ray)

But hey, how do you put price on enjoyment? This is purely for fun for me---

I had no idea the Q9100 was that cheap on eBay now. Something is going on for the prices to drop so suddenly. Even the QX9300 is only $399...

The deal gets even sweeter if I drop the WUXGA and Blue-Ray:

    $1099 (M860TUw/GTX260M) shipped
    $64 (320GB 7200rpm) shipped
    $53 (4GB RAM) shipped
    $249 (Q9100) or $225 (T9600) shipped
    I already have XP Pro
    =====================
    $1465 or $1441 for an M860TU!

Now tell me it ain't worth going the barebone way!

By the way, I may be nuts, but I ain't paying $399 for a quad processor--

I emailed R&J Tech- they recommended using a notebook cooler for the Q9100 or QX9300.

Yeah I'm pretty sure an M860TU with a Q9100 or QX9300 runs quite hot. Well I thought the videocard wasn't ioncluded my bad.

But seeing your price, yeah I guess it's a good deal. You only don't get warranty I guess (Parts 1 year probly.. except ebay). The biggest save in your build is the Q9100 from ebay lol.. you save like 600$ from a retail one.
But if your going for a quad, I'd say why not the QX9300? :p

Until I see a QX9300 running in the M860TU, I'm going to assume that it'll be way too hot.

Same wattage doesn't = same heat output.

    Yeah it sucks-
Looks like my best bet is the fastest P9000 series I can find-
How about the T9600 or T9800? Is 35w low enough?

I guess anything with 45w such as the Q9100 is also out of the running-

yes, but in one month the P9700 will be out 2.8 Ghz at 25W. I am waiting for it. For now I have ordered a T9600 from ebay and I will replace it with a P9700.
Yes, the T9600/T9800 should do just fine.

My T9800 cores never even come close to what spec considers hot. Other than with the HDD this internal coolng system is amazing.

Isn't the QX9200 you have an ES?

Usually QS is better than ES....There isn´t a QS Q92... only ES available.....

For $229- it's the best bang for the buck-

Spending more doesn't seem good for items that have limited shelf-life(as far performance anyway).

so what if you want to use the proc for video/photo, 3d rendering/animation, cad etc. would the q9100 beat out the T9800 (or T9550 in my case is also a candidate). Do most of you still believe the T will beat out the quad?

The Q9100 would beat out the T9800 by a substantial margin in those operations.

FYI, both my older Q9100 and the new QX9300 have the temp sensor functionality. I seem to get a different base value depending on what program is doing the reading, but the relative increases in temp all are the same. I got them both from Shirleyfu off of ebay. He advertised them as QS rather than ES.

Does the Q9100 or QX9300 get so hot to warrant using a cooler?
