I'm looking for a semi-portable desktop replacement, and I like both the np8651 and the np8671 for the flexibility and ability to upgrade over time.

Ideally, I'd really like the larger screen of the 8671. I'm seeing on xotic that it shows with IPS as the only option now:

    http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8671-clevo-p670se-p-7799.html?wconfigure=yes
7.3” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Matte Type Sager IPS Screen (SKU - SSC879)

But, is that a true IPS screen? In most of the reviews I've read here, they only came with a TN option - I'd have to assume that this means its been recently updated. If it is a IPS display, anyone have anything to say on the quality (colors, viewing angles, brightness) of that display?

On the np8651, I know I can get a LG IPS display which has good reviews. Is the screen on the 8671 as good?

    Thanks!

I believe those models came out initially with TN screens, and then later swapped over to IPS as the default option. That might be causing the confusion on the reviews vs whats offered now.

Not to jump in ahead of Xotic but I have included a link below so you can compare the panels :)

We have just had stock arrive for the XMG P705 with IPS matt panel which uses the same chassis as the 8671. The panel is the same as in the XMG U705 - there is a good comparison of the two panels about a third of the way down this page:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Schenker-XMG-U705-Clevo-P771ZM-Notebook-Review.141416.0.html

The P705 refered to has the older TN panel whilst the U705 has the IPS LG LP173WF4-SPD1 so this should be the same as in the 8671.

This is exactly the sort of information I was hoping to find - very much appreciated. If you are indeed correct, and these are also LG branded IPS panels, that's exactly what I'm looking for. The xotic site isn't clear on this point - on the 8651 where IPS is only an option, the IPS panel is clearly marked as a LG branded panel:
    5.6" FHD (16:9) Anti-Glare Matte-Type Sager IPS Screen (1920x1080) (LG Brand) (SKU - S2K003)( + 45 )

On the larger screen, where I don't have an option, it is not clearly indicated. I recognize this is nitpicking on Xotic's site, but after some disappointment with my Lenovo, I'm trying to get all of my questions settled up front. I'm having a little trouble getting specifics from a US reseller. I suppose I should probably just call them..

    Thanks again!

    Thanks for the link @XMG
I do agree that having one branded LG and the other not can cause some confusion. That info is direct from Sager so we have it listed the way they provide the specs to us. They may not want to guarantee the 17.3" will always be LG even though that is what they are currently using.
