... can anyone suggest a decent replacement?

... or is there anyone using a different power adapter from what your reseller provides?

    Thoughts please? Thanks!

You can get one from Ebay, just search for ''NEW Genuine LI SHIN 0227A20120 20V 6A AC Adapter 120W''

They were selling a few 160W ones some time ago but they sold out very quickly. Alternatively you can get a spare from your reseller for double the cost or more.

Cool, thanks! By the way, I have the LiteOn adapter - is the Li Shin more reliable?

Either one is good. Just cross your fingers and hope you don't get unlucky a second time. A PSU with five of it's six sides unobstructed is a happy PSU.

Thanks! Erm ... my power adapter is okay. I was asking for a "what if" situation :) I have an old Targus power adapter which also works but I'm not sure if it's compatible. I think it's 90W, is this okay for the NP8690? Or should I get the 120W at least?

No, 90W will not cut it. You need the 120W unit. If you ever need one, I have a few collecting dust in my junk bin.

Does it matter if the Lite On has a 19V 6.3A output?

On the underside of the laptop, there are three boxes with 20V 6A, 18.5V 6.5A, and 19V 6.3A. There's a little check mark next to the 19V 6.3A. I don't know if any of that stuff matters...

It doesn't matter. Your motherboard is going to buck the voltage to necessary levels anyway. Our boards can accept any of the three DC voltages (+/-10%).

If it's not too much trouble, then I'd like some please :) Shall we move this conversation via PM?

I need to be schooled on wattages as my knowledge about wattages is virtually zero. *googling wattages on electrical appliances now*

What are the benefits of getting a 160W power adapter anyways?

And NP8690 has the 5.5x2.5mm plug yeah?

So, is it correct to say that ANY power adapter that has the same adapter plug (5.5 x 2.5 mm), roughly same output voltage (19V or 20V), roughly same output current (6.3A, 7.1A, 8A) and at least 120W is compatible with the Clevo 860CU / Sager NP8690?

Speaking of adapters, I have a 180 watt adapter with my laptop, and i tested how much power this laptop uses while playing BC2.
The meter read 150-160 watts while playing BC2, so this just some info if you plan on getting a 120w adapter.
To be honest I am not sure why this laptop would be shipped with a 120w adapter to begin with.

    Your thoughts, Soviet?

If you don't mind which adapter did you get? I'm interested in upgrading mine but get a little paranoid that I'll grab the wrong one and let out the magic blue smoke.

Power input and output from the adapter are not equal, there will be some heavy loss involved, therefore assuming approx 75% efficiency 160W in = 120W out, so pretty close to the rating... I agree that 120W is still a little low for such a machine, but not as low as you are suggesting.

Also, almost all AC-DC converters are more efficient on higher voltages (ie higher efficiency in Europe/230V to USA/110V)
