I currently own a Sager NP8690 with an i7 620m and Mobility Radeon 5870. I have owned the laptop for a little more than half a year, and I am thinking about overclocking my CPU or GPU. Because of my Cryo cooler and new cooling paste, my temperatures on both the CPU and GPU are very good, so that is not a concern. However, I have never overclocked any of my laptops and I don't know the other risks. Can my power supply handle it? If anyone can tell me if it would be possible to overclock either the CPU or GPU safely, I would appreciate it greatly. Also, I don't really know how to overclock either the CPU or GPU (although I'm sure I can figure it out if need be) so if anyone can give me instructions that would be helpful as well.
Thanks

Pretty sure you can overclock your GPU with MSI afterburner.
Once you find a stable overclock, you can mod the vbios and flash it onto the card.
Something similar to this:

I'm not sure about your CPU.
You may be able to overclock the reference clock (133mhz) if you can find the PLL. -
Cool, I'll look into that. Thanks!

Oh, I almost forgot. Any idea if my power supply can handle it or how I can find out if it can?

What's your power supply rated for?

120W if he uses the standard PSU. A decent overclock on the GPU should be possible as he uses a 35W CPU, there is some headroom. Overclocking the CPU is not possible, the PLL is locked, I don't think anyone managed to mod it. But the i7-620M is enough for most games.
I'd say you should be able to o/c the HD 5870M to stock HD 5770 clocks (850 MHz). You might need to up the voltage to 1.03 or 1.05. I would not tinker with the memory clocks too much, the card should have enough memory bandwith in 1920x1080 as it is. Bear in mind however, that some parts of the motherboard do not respond well to added power load and might degrade over time. But if you keep the o/c withing 10-20W there should be no problem, as the chassis could also house a CPUs with a TDP of 45W or 55W. Under no circumstance should you get a bigger PSU. -
Thanks, I probably won't OC the GPU, I was more interested in CPU anyway. However, I'm happy with my computer's performance as it is.

Clevo stock voltage setting is 1.15v, not 1.0v.
