    Hi all

Long time reader first time poster here. After reading up quite a bit about Clevo/Sager, I decided to bite the bullet and by a NP9130. So far it's been great except for...

When I plug in my headphones I get static in the background, the static is there constantly. It doesn't matter if there's nothing playing or if I'm listening to music/watching movies, there's static in the background. The headphones work perfectly fine on another laptop so I don't think the headphones are at fault. The laptop's speakers appear to be fine too, any ideas?

I'm running Windows 7 64bit and using the drivers that came with the laptop, if that helps. I'd prefer not to have to send the laptop back to Sager as I'm not in the US so postage will cost a metric tonne.

    Many thanks in advance.

That is most likely due to interference at the headphone jack. Have you tried removing the battery and listening? Have you tried a second set of headphones in the laptop and hear the same issue?

Did you turn the sound volume very high and you hear a high pitch sound, then please reload the audio driver.

not sure if it works on your model but (sounds stupid) but plug your headphones in the mic socket next to the headphones socket.
if you get a popup box that asks do you want mic in or speakers out click speakers out and see if you get the same static.

if it doesnt work on your model then sorry for getting your hopes up :(

No high pitched sounds when I turn the volume to max, reinstalled sound drivers anyway. Was no go.

I've pulled out the battery and tried that but it doesn't appear to have any effect. I'll try to find another pair of headphones to try but I haven't had any issues using these headphones on other devices.

I get an option for center speaker out, doesn't appear to do anything though (no sound at all) :(

try the next s/pdif socket then and see if that lets you tick the box for speaker out.
all 3 sockets work for me on the 15" so as you got the popup box it should work for you.

this static sound is affecting quite a few on the P150/170 15 & 17" models as well

oh well sorry but dont know what else to suggest except an external sound card like x-fi

actually hang on. go to your realtek HD sound management and change the dropdown box from 2.1 and then try the other plugs again. try 5.1 and 7.1

isnt the static because of the hard drive?

The static can be from any number of things which is why all the troubleshooting steps are coming from everybody. If none of these have worked so far, I'd either contact the reseller and see if they have any additional tips or get an external soundcard as MrDJ suggested.
