I've had my Sager NP9150 for a little over a year. It's worked perfectly until last night. I went to unplug the machine to go sit in front of the TV in another room and it immediately turned off. Keep in mind I had probably had it plugged in a week or so straight so I knew the battery had to be charged. I tried to turn the laptop on and it would not power on. I could only turn the machine on when it was plugged into the wall socket.

I also plugged in the laptop with the battery missing and the computer definately knows that it is missing a battery as it says it's missing right in windows. Then when the battery is in the laptop it shows up in Windows as well. I know batteries can go bad but I thought it was sort of a slow degradation. I had used the battery many times before and never had any problems.

So my question is.... how does this happen? Is it battery related or laptop related? Is there anyway to figure this out without sending it in for a week or so because it would be very tough to be without my laptop for any length of time.

    Thanks :)

download battery care or battery bar from my sig below.
this will tell you how much % the battery has. of course its most prob going to say 0% so you know its a dead battery.

its been discussed many times before and some rubbish the claim that leaving the battery connected when always on mains can cause faster degradation. also heat is a batterys worst nightmare and this can certainly help with its demise.

im not sure if batterys are covered by 6 months or 1 year warranty so the only alternative is to buy a new one.

This actually happened 6 months after I bought my computer. I was just surfing one day, and suddenly the computer turned off.
I connected it to the power supply, and it worked perfectly.
It changed between finding the battery and not charging, and not finding it.
I tried with another battery but no change.

Send the computer in, and it seems that a part of the motherboard actually had fried itself! So the re-seller sent it to Clevo in USA, and i will get an answer about it on monday. It it better be covered by Clevo/re-seller, or it's a complete outrage.

And talking about being without your computer, mine has been gone for a full month now.

a month, thats too long. who was your supplier? and are you also in the usa.
normally suppliers like xoticpc/prostar/power notebooks will do the rma service repair and not send it direct to clevo.
clevo america service centre is in california. i would give them a call as a month is too long to wait CLEVO - World's Service

I'm situated in Norway and have bought my computer through multicom.no here. Nice people, just hope that everything works out. Would feel kinda ripped off if I have to pay for the damage.

Normally they fix things themselves, but when they sent the pictures to Clevo, they insisted that Multicom sent the PC to them. Clevo said they would give the job highest priority. But it takes a while for the laptop just to get over the ocean.

But thanks for the contact information anyway :)

ahh, i see. ive checked the website in the clevo euro thread even though norway is not part of the european eunion (lucky you) :D

if there is something burned out on the motherboard it should be replaced free of charge under warranty and you might even get a upgrade as your cpu will be old stock now and normally replacements get the newer stock.

hope you hear from them tomorrow.
i would explain its been a month now and you would like it returned express delivery.

Lucky indeed, they are all going bankrupt one after another down in the EU :D

Yeah, I really can't see how a fried motherboard could not go under warranty.
Actually since I have had so many problems with it, I will ask to trade it in for "store credit", and buy the new 375SM (I do wish they had 370) with the dual 780M :D Depends on how much they are willing to offer.

Installed the battery software and it looks like its detecting the battery whenever it's in but it says it is at 97% and charging never going up or down from 97%

Thinking I'll try and get a new battery and if that doesn't work maybe send it in.

Sorry to say I had the same behavior on my laptop (only mine was forever stuck on 37%), hope your problem is easier to fix!
