I am looking to purchase a good, strong, laptop for my work/school and I am looking to get this model.
I wanted to know from those that have gotten it what do you guys think about it? How long does the battery give you?
How does it compare to a XPS 15 or other models similar?
I need around 4-6 hours battery life to be good. DVD/Blu-Ray burner, i7, 8gb min, good quality sharp screen.
I am also getting the 15" as I think the 17" and lugging it around will be a bit too heavy as I have a friend with a older Sager 17" and it's heavy and huge.
Also I can't find much info on this, but I saw two different keyboards that light up. One a standard and one a chicklet style? What is the difference? Any pictures?
Thank you everyone as I am going to be ordering this probably within the next week or so. Any good places to get it from that are cheaper and good service than others? So far I looked at Xoticpc. Or any coupons?

All of these are spoken of frequently, will help to do a few minutes of googling to see all of the discussions on the topics. Will fill in what i know (note I havent recieved my clevo yet)
Average battery life wil not get you anywhere close to 4-6, seems more like 2-3. All the other stats are easily attainable.
I cannot compare quality with dell as I have a hate from dell that prevents me from thinking any of their stuff isnt garbage (that may come from the fact that I have eyes).
I struggled with the 15" vs 17" for portability as I travel constantly and went with the 15", its still decently large. On thing you need to remember is youll also need to haul the power brick which in both cases is quite large.
The chicklet style is an steelseries made keyboard. It is really down to preference on what style you like. From what I have read they both suffer from the same issues (ghosting etc), so matter of preference.
Read up on the reseller review forum so you can find out on your question, though I found contacting the different resellers tends to get you the cheapest prices, using the configration sites arent going to get you the actual price you can get. Your other option is to not go through the resellers and get something from a builder (like mythlogic or malibal), though it sometimes will cost a little more, you may get some better service.
In the end I would recommend you do some browsing around on the forum and read what is the current state of things as hoping everyone else will answer you questions will leave you with a lot of opinions and not always facts on things. -
Thanks for the response. Actually I have been reading these forums a lot over the last 3-4 days and can't narrow down these answers. So it's the reason I was asking.
Not exactly sure what you mean by ghosting on the keyboard itself? Yep, you are right, that power brick is a big issue since it is large. :/ Didn't even think about that one. -

Keyboard doesnt register after x number of keys are pressed at one time. -
It is perhaps unreasonable to compare it to an XPS 15 as it isn't the same thing. The power required to run high end GPUs is much greater, so the power brick and laptop are larger, battery life is also affected. The XPS15 only uses a 640m, so is much slower, but more compact. If you want a machine with this much power, there is are compromises. A fair comparison would be Alienware, or MSI.
