Can I shutdown or power up without opening or closing the lid?
When I am home I use an external monitor. Anyway I can turn it on without opening the screen?

You can get a Keyboard with a power button and enable boot on USB. You can also enable Wake on LAN and have some sort of fancy gizmo that sends a packet through the LAN when you open your bedroom door. Kinda like this!

I do it from sleep mode by turning on my Logitech mouse. Or, if I leave the mouse on while putting it in sleep mode, I can press any button on the mouse and it will turn back on. Not sure of a way to turn on if it completely shut down though. That would be sweet.

You would just need to enable Wake on USB or whatever interface it has to the computer. Nothing special beyond that as far as I'm aware of. I use mine all the time.

Keeping the laptop screen closed is going to make run hotter though, just something to consider. The heat dissipated from keyboard that naturally goes up will now accumulate on your screen.

The Sager won't draw much from the keyboard. Asus does a lot, but the 9150 should be fine doing it.

    I have a logitech k360.
How do I set it to boot up using the keyboard?
To boot up, and shut down. SO I don't have to open the lid,
    Is it in the bios?

You won't be able power on remotely if switched off completely.

i thought some hardware setups are able to via WOL. that'd be pretty cool, sit down at your desk and boot your laptop without opening the lid from your cellphone.

It will indeed be in the BIOS to adjust these settings.

In order for this to work, BIOS would have to support and enable wake from S5 sleep state and network card to support power on the machine. This would have to be a wired connection as I don't know of any wireless cards that transmit/receive when the system is powered off. If this truly works, I'd be interested as well but don't see settings in the BIOS for this. I've never seen this work with a desktop with a full featured BIOS let alone the scrimpy BIOS in the Clevo notebooks.

Supporting example: when I'm at home I keep my M860TU (similar cooling design) stashed on a shelf with the lid closed, attached to an external monitor. The temps are identical with the lid open or closed; I've been using it this way for over a year and I haven't noticed any difference in the screen.

AnimalMother, I also have the k360, and all I have to do is hit any key and the PC wakes from sleep, but not from a shutdown or hibernation. The USB receiver does have to be in one of the side USB ports - I don't think all of my ports support wake on USB. There may be a setting in the BIOS for the other ports, but it works so I haven't looked into it. YMMV with the 9150.

Derek, I'm actually really bummed about the Asus cooling design, btw, as I thought the new UX51 was going to be the perfect, more mobile replacement for my M860TU. Not being able to run with the lid closed was a total dealbreaker for me. Hopefully Clevo comes up with something a little lighter (13-14") in the next big release, whenever that might be.

Yeah, I have always thought it was a unique take on cooling. I can see it's merits, but I personally don't care for it too much either. That laptop on the other hand is pretty slick and pretty sure I'll be buying one when released. Might just be our review unit over here.

Hope you get a good one - I understand some of the smaller Zens have had QC issues. That said, I completely had my heart set on it until I saw that the cooling setup wouldn't work for me. Any insight on what new form factors may or may not be coming down the pipe from Clevo in the next 6 months?

    (sorry for the hijack AnimalMother)

There are some pretty cool Clevo units out on the web, no word on when Sager will be adopting them but they're going to be pretty slick. Almost had to nix my Zenbook mentality and shoot off that way but I just can't resist the stylish looks.

Yeah that's what I meant. I don't think I can do that with my K360. Was hoping it ,e doable. I thought about putting pop sickle stick in there and pushing it downward so I don't hit my screen.

I know I can hibernate it, I was looking for power completely off/on without opening the monitor.

I am glad that you guys reported temps rising when the monitor lid is down.

It would be nice. The way I had my system set up previously, I had my laptop set up high out of the way, and with lid closed temps were much higher, and while I would let it sleep, there was always that need to power on manually so had to stand on my chair every time to push the power button.
