I just purchased a NP9170....fully loaded. 2.7 to 3.7 i7, 32G Memory, Nvidia 675 2G graphics card, 256 SSD, 750 GB 7200 rpm, Blu-ray burner.
What am I to expect with this purchase?
-
It's a pretty nice machine. Not new (obviously).
What is your intended use? -
Mostly photoshop and coreldraw. I know over compensation but I'm going to do video editing also.
-
I paid $1100 with free shipping.

2nd hand or refurbished with warranty? The 675m matches around the 860m.
-
1 owner. Never taken out of the house. Was used as a desktop replacement. Not a refurbished item. I'm thinking of getting another warranty. What are your thoughts on that?

That for $100 more you can get an 870M and 4810MQ machine brand new with warranty.
-
No way. Not with an additional 256 SSD, 32gb of memory IC Diamond thermal, extra copper cooling and a Blu-ray burner. I've checked the price and contacted XoticPC "that's who it was customized from".
-
The 32GB of memory is an additional $380

Well it depends on your use, most people will find 8GB of ram just fine and while an SSD may add a bit the 870M and 4810MQ will seriously outpace that one in games.

Better check where your getting your information friend.

The GTX675M is based on the fermi architecture and is identical to the GTX580M, it has 384 shaders running at 1240mhz and a 256bit memory bus at 750mhz.
The GTX870M is based on the kepler architecture, it has 1344 shaders running at 941mhz and a 192bit memory bus at 1250mhz.
In every measurable way the 870M is vastly superior to the 675M, no matter the title or resolution it will have a clear lead (60-70%). This generation gap has been heralded as one of the largest in history.
The 3820QM runs at 3.5ghz (max 4 core turbo) and is a third generation I7 processor.
The 4810MQ runs at 3.6ghz (max 4 core turbo) and is a fourth generation I7 processor.
The 4810MQ will run faster in all situations compares to the 3820QM. This is due to both a clock and IPC (instructions per clock) advantage. The difference will not be major but should apply across all situations.
If you have any further questions regarding why what I said is correct, be it further clarifications of the advantages of the Kepler architecture over Fermi or some of the changes in the 4th generation I7 over the 3rd generation I7 then I am more than happy to explain further. This is not to meantion feature differences which I have not gone into such as 4k output support. -
This may be true but for the difference in both of the processor out puts. I would value the added features I purchased this laptop for. This was purchased for mostly graphic design and video editing. It will serve my purpose very well. Thank you for your text book explanation.

This is why I put the caveat of depending on your use though the 4810MQ is faster and the ram/SSD is the easiest part of a system to upgrade so long term they can be added.
-
So can the video card.

It's a more expensive upgrade than the SSD or the ram, it's more complicated and at the moment the EM does not support the latest cards.
-
Does not matter. I know what was being run on this machine and at what resolution. I know how meticulous the owner is and what condition I'm getting it. I know what I need to use it for "which is not gaming" I have a 9 year old and a 5 year old. If I want to play games it's going to be with them and not in front of a laptop.

Now that I read that it sounds a little rude. Never meant to come off that way. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Not a problem, it's ok. The only thing you are potentially missing out on is portability and battery life of the more modern machines but otherwise for your usage it should be pretty solid.
There are 2 x 2.5 inch drive bays and an msata slot for storage. The 2.5" are SATA gen 3 where as the msata is gen 2 but should still be fast so check what drives are where (the 750gb will be 2.5") as you should have expansion options.
