I was looking around at the NP9170 on the Sager website, and I noticed that under the specs tab, it shows an optional 120Hz 3d screen upgrade. However, the screen is not available as an upgrade option. I have been looking around on the internet to see if I can find anything about it, but I cannot find any decent information on its arrival/legitimacy.

I would like to know whether this is an actual upgrade that will be available in the future (and how far in the future), or whether the website has a mistake.

Also, would it even be worth getting a 3d screen for a laptop, or would I be better off buying an external 3d monitor (I would really like the smoother 120Hz screen)?

    Thanks in advance.

That seems like it should be the other way around. I wonder why they have it listed without an option for customization or an ETA of when it will be available. I am holding back from ordering and its killing me!

    The 150HM's didn't have 3D screens.. Only the 170HM

I remember reading the same thing but I'm not sure which thread it was now. I know there's been a few discussing similar topics

Yes and it's coming soon. It's also not a screen upgrade, it's a different model with built in IR for the glasses. If you upgrade the screen on the current model you won't have the IR.

FYI someone mentioned that the reason there were no 3d screen options for the EM series was that the iGPU couldn't support the bandwidth required for 3d. That even though the iGPU wouldn't be doing the processing the output would flow through it and it couldn't pass that much. We're getting into a technical area that's a little beyond my knowledge so I can't speak to the details beyond that or even confirm that, that information is correct but it was mentioned in another thread (unfortunately I can't find it and it wasn't specifically about 3d screens so I'm not sure if it'd be easily found through searching).

    I demand 3D screens for my P170EM.

It's the only thing holding me from ordering it.

The P170EM3 was cancelled a while back because Optimus + 3D couldn't be made to work. So yea this won't be happening :(

P370EM and P570WM were slated to get 3D versions however.

Why? because of the iGPU Bandwith?

They weren't very specific but word on the street is 120Hz + iGPU was a no go.. and also because the dGPU didn't control the outputs you couldn't get the glasses to sync up properly because the dGPU knows when a frame goes out when IT controls the outputs.
